Journal ArticleDOI
Human Leukocyte Antigen Complex and Other Immunogenetic and Clinical Factors Influence Susceptibility or Protection to SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Severity of the Disease Course. The Sardinian Experience.
Roberto Littera,Marcello Campagna,Silvia Deidda,Goffredo Angioni,Selene Cipri,Maurizio Melis,Davide Firinu,Simonetta Santus,Alberto Lai,R. Porcella,Sara Lai,Stefania Rassu,Rosetta Scioscia,Federico Meloni,Daniele Schirru,William Cordeddu,Marta Anna Kowalik,Maria Pina Serra,Paola Ragatzu,Mauro Giovanni Carta,Stefano Del Giacco,Angelo Restivo,S. Deidda,Sandro Orru,Antonella Palimodde,Roberto Perra,Germano Orrù,M. Conti,C. Balestrieri,Giancarlo Serra,Simona Onali,Francesco Marongiu,Andrea Perra,Luchino Chessa +33 more
TL;DR: The data emerging from this study suggest that the extended haplotype HLA-A*02:05, B*58:01, C*07: 01, DRB1*03:01 has a protective effect against SARS-CoV-2 infection in the Sardinian population.
Journal ArticleDOI
KIR and their HLA Class I ligands: Two more pieces towards completing the puzzle of chronic rejection and graft loss in kidney transplantation.
Roberto Littera,Gianbenedetto Piredda,Davide Argiolas,Sara Lai,E Congeddu,Paola Ragatzu,Maurizio Melis,Elisabetta Carta,Maria Benigna Michittu,Donatella Valentini,L Cappai,R. Porcella,F Alba,Maria Pina Serra,Valentina Loi,R Maddi,Sandro Orru,Giorgio La Nasa,Giovanni Caocci,Roberto Cusano,M Arras,Mauro Frongia,Antonello Pani,Carlo Carcassi +23 more
TL;DR: A significantly higher risk of chronic rejection after kidney transplantation was observed when recipient (r) and donor (d) pairs completely lacked the two functional rKir-dHLA ligand combinations rKIR2DL1/d HLA-C2 and rK IR3DL1-Bw4, and patients with this high risk profile could benefit from immunosuppressive therapy aimed at reducing NK-cell cytotoxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Killer immunoglobulin-like receptors can predict TKI treatment-free remission in chronic myeloid leukemia patients.
Giovanni Caocci,Bruno Martino,Marianna Greco,Elisabetta Abruzzese,Malgorzata Monika Trawinska,Sara Lai,Paola Ragatzu,Sara Galimberti,Claudia Baratè,Olga Mulas,Claudia Labate,Roberto Littera,Carlo Carcassi,Carlo Gambacorti Passerini,Giorgio La Nasa +14 more
TL;DR: KIR genotypes could prove useful in identifying patients that are likely to maintain MR(4.5) after discontinuing TKI treatment, and younger age, Bx haplotype, and the combination KIR3DS1/KIR3DL1 present/HLA-Bw4 present were significantly associated with relapse.
Journal ArticleDOI
Natural killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptors trigger differences in immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Roberto Littera,Luchino Chessa,Silvia Deidda,Goffredo Angioni,Marcello Campagna,Sara Lai,Maurizio Melis,Selene Cipri,Davide Firinu,Simonetta Santus,Alberto Lai,R. Porcella,Stefania Rassu,Federico Meloni,Daniele Schirru,William Cordeddu,Marta Anna Kowalik,Paola Ragatzu,Monica Vacca,Federica Cannas,F Alba,Mauro Giovanni Carta,Stefano Del Giacco,Angelo Restivo,S. Deidda,Antonella Palimodde,Paola Congera,Roberto Perra,Germano Orrù,Francesco Pes,Martina Loi,Claudia Murru,Enrico Urru,Simona Onali,F. Coghe,Sabrina Giglio,Andrea Perra +36 more
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of KIRs and their HLA Class I ligands on SARS-CoV-2 infection was investigated in 396 Sardinian patients with COVID-19 infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Entropy of human leukocyte antigen and killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor systems in immune-mediated disorders: A pilot study on multiple sclerosis.
Maurizio Melis,Roberto Littera,Eleonora Cocco,Jessica Frau,Sara Lai,E Congeddu,Paola Ragatzu,Maria Pina Serra,Valentina Loi,R Maddi,Roberta Pitzalis,Sandro Orru,Luchino Chessa,Andrea Perra,Carlo Carcassi +14 more
TL;DR: Entropy associated to HLA four-loci haplotypes and combinations of two inhibitory KIR genes was significantly higher in patients affected by RRMS than in healthy controls and may represent a useful complementary tool to the risk assessment of immune-mediated disorders.
