Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term benefit of interferon α therapy of chronic hepatitis D: regression of advanced hepatic fibrosis
Patrizia Farci,Tania Roskams,Luchino Chessa,Giovanna Peddis,Anna Paola Mazzoleni,Rosetta Scioscia,Giancarlo Serra,Maria Eliana Lai,M Loy,L. Caruso,Valeer Desmet,Robert H. Purcell,Angelo Balestrieri +12 more
TL;DR: High doses of interferon alpha-2a significantly improved the long-term clinical outcome and survival of patients with chronic hepatitis D, even though the majority had active cirrhosis before the onset of therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human Leukocyte Antigen Complex and Other Immunogenetic and Clinical Factors Influence Susceptibility or Protection to SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Severity of the Disease Course. The Sardinian Experience.
Roberto Littera,Marcello Campagna,Silvia Deidda,Goffredo Angioni,Selene Cipri,Maurizio Melis,Davide Firinu,Simonetta Santus,Alberto Lai,R. Porcella,Sara Lai,Stefania Rassu,Rosetta Scioscia,Federico Meloni,Daniele Schirru,William Cordeddu,Marta Anna Kowalik,Maria Pina Serra,Paola Ragatzu,Mauro Giovanni Carta,Stefano Del Giacco,Angelo Restivo,S. Deidda,Sandro Orru,Antonella Palimodde,Roberto Perra,Germano Orrù,M. Conti,C. Balestrieri,Giancarlo Serra,Simona Onali,Francesco Marongiu,Andrea Perra,Luchino Chessa +33 more
TL;DR: The data emerging from this study suggest that the extended haplotype HLA-A*02:05, B*58:01, C*07: 01, DRB1*03:01 has a protective effect against SARS-CoV-2 infection in the Sardinian population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Severe autoimmune hemolytic anemia in a patient with chronic hepatitis C during treatment with peginterferon alfa-2a and ribavirin
Cristiana Cauli,Giancarlo Serra,Luchino Chessa,C. Balestrieri,Rosetta Scioscia,Maria Eliana Lai,Patrizia Farci +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that in patients without preexisting immunological abnormalities Peg-IFN can de novo induce autoimmune complications that, albeit rarely, may be life-threatening.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exploring the Role of Killer Cell Immunoglobulin-Like Receptors and Their HLA Class I Ligands in Autoimmune Hepatitis.
Roberto Littera,Luchino Chessa,Simona Onali,F. Figorilli,Sara Lai,L. Secci,Giorgio La Nasa,Giovanni Caocci,M Arras,Maurizio Melis,S. Cappellini,C. Balestrieri,Giancarlo Serra,M. Conti,T. Zolfino,M. Casale,S. Casu,Maria Cristina Pasetto,Lucia Barca,C. Salustro,Laura Matta,Rosetta Scioscia,Fausto Zamboni,Gavino Faa,Sandro Orru,Carlo Carcassi +25 more
TL;DR: The activating KIR gene Kir2DS1 resulted to have an important predictive potential for early onset of type 1 autoimmune hepatitis and the low frequency of the KIR-ligand combinations KIR3DL1/HLA-Bw4 and KIR2DL3/ HLA-C1 coupled to the high affinity HLA-C2 high affinity ligands for KIR1DS1 could contribute to unwanted NK cell autoreactivity in AIH-1.
Influence of alfa interferon on the natural history of chronic hepatitis D:dissociation of histologic and virologic response
Patrizia Farci,Luchino Chessa,Giovanna Peddis,R Strazzera,E Pascariello,Rosetta Scioscia,Ma Lai,Anna Paola Mazzoleni,Tania Roskams,Valeer Desmet,Rh Purcell,Antonella Balestrieri +11 more
