Antiapoptotic Properties of α-Crystallin–Derived Peptide Chaperones and Characterization of Their Uptake Transporters in Human RPE Cells

TL;DR: Investigation of whether 19 to 20-mer α-crystallin-derived mini-chaperone peptides are antiapoptotic, and to identify their putative transporters in human fetal RPE cells found them to offer protection to hfRPE cells and inhibit caspase-3 activation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of novel breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP) inhibitors by virtual screening.

TL;DR: The combined strategy of computational and experimental approaches in this paper has suggested potential drug candidates and thus represents an effective tool for rational identification of modulators of other proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sodium-dependent vitamin C transporter SVCT2: expression and function in bone marrow stromal cells and in osteogenesis

TL;DR: Data show that SVCT2 plays a vital role in the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs and that its expression is altered under conditions associated with redox reaction, which could be relevant to bone tissue engineering and bone related diseases such as osteoporosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Resveratrol promotes degradation of the human bile acid transporter ASBT (SLC10A2).

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that RSV inhibits ASBT protein expression and function via a SIRT1 (sirtuin 1)-independent mechanism, and regulation of ASBT expression by RSV may have clinical relevance with regard to the observed cholesterol-lowering effects of RSV.
