Preexposure Chemoprophylaxis for HIV Prevention in Men Who Have Sex with Men
Robert M. Grant,Javier R. Lama,Peter L. Anderson,Vanessa McMahan,Albert Y. Liu,Lorena Vargas,Pedro Goicochea,Martin Casapia,Juan Vicente Guanira-Carranza,Maria Esther Ramirez-Cardich,Orlando Montoya-Herrera,Telmo Fernandez,Valdilea G. Veloso,Susan Buchbinder,Suwat Chariyalertsak,Mauro Schechter,Linda-Gail Bekker,Kenneth H. Mayer,Esper G. Kallas,K. Rivet Amico,Kathleen Mulligan,Lane R. Bushman,Robert J. Hance,Carmela Ganoza,Patricia Defechereux,Brian S. Postle,Furong Wang,J. Jeff McConnell,Jia-Hua Zheng,Jeanny Lee,James F. Rooney,Howard S. Jaffe,Ana Martinez,David N. Burns,David V. Glidden +34 more
TL;DR: Oral FTC-TDF provided protection against the acquisition of HIV infection among the subjects and Detectable blood levels strongly correlated with the prophylactic effect.
Journal ArticleDOI
The site of HIV‐1 integration in the human genome determines basal transcriptional activity and response to Tat transactivation
TL;DR: It is found that differences in expression levels are due to the integration site and are not controlled by DNA methylation or histone acetylation, and that the HIV Tat protein activates transcription independently of the chromatin environment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimization and Limitations of Use of Cryopreserved Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells for Functional and Phenotypic T-Cell Characterization
Adriana Weinberg,Lin-Ye Song,Cynthia L. Wilkening,Anne Sevin,Bruce Blais,Raul Louzao,Dana Stein,Patricia Defechereux,Deborah Durand,Eric Riedel,Nancy Raftery,Renee Jesser,Betty S. Brown,M. Fran Keller,Ruth Dickover,Elizabeth J. McFarland,Terence Fenton +16 more
TL;DR: It was determined that slowly diluting the thawed PBMC significantly improved viable cell recovery, whereas the use of benzonase improved cell recovery only sometimes, and LPA and flow cytometry assay results for cryopreserved and fresh PBMC were highly correlated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antibody Responses to Hepatitis A Virus Vaccine in HIV-Infected Children with Evidence of Immunologic Reconstitution while Receiving Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy
Adriana Weinberg,Philimon Gona,Sharon Nachman,Patricia Defechereux,Ram Yogev,Walter T. Hughes,Diane W. Wara,Steven A Spector,Jennifer S. Read,Carol Elgie,Marlene Cooper,Wayne M. Dankner +11 more
TL;DR: HIV-infected children with CD4+ T cell percentages > or = 20% responded better to the HAV vaccine if they had undetectable HIV RNA, suggesting that an increase in immunizations may be warranted in this population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strong Correlation Between Concentrations of Tenofovir (TFV) Emtricitabine (FTC) in Hair and TFV Diphosphate and FTC Triphosphate in Dried Blood Spots in the iPrEx Open Label Extension: Implications for Pre-exposure Prophylaxis Adherence Monitoring
Monica Gandhi,David V. Glidden,Albert Y. Liu,Peter L. Anderson,Howard Horng,Patricia Defechereux,Juan V. Guanira,Beatriz Grinsztejn,Suwat Chariyalertsak,Linda-Gail Bekker,Robert M. Grant +10 more
TL;DR: Hair TFV/FTC concentrations correlate strongly with DBS levels, which are predictive of PrEP outcomes, and drug detectability was generally concordant by matrix.
