Journal ArticleDOI
Tsetse-trypanosomiasis challenge to village N'Dama cattle in The Gambia: field assessments of spatial and temporal patterns of tsetse-cattle contact and the risk of trypanosomiasis infection.
TL;DR: This work has studied spatial distribution of herds of cattle in relation to tsetse in The Gambia and calculated an index of challenge based on the ratio of vectors to hosts over the livestock ranging area that is strongly correlated with estimates of the force of infection calculated from the incidence of infection in susceptible zebu.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of molecular markers of drug resistance in an area of seasonal malaria chemoprevention in children in Senegal
Aminata C. Lo,Babacar Faye,El-Hadj Ba,Badara Cisse,Roger Tine,Annie Abiola,Magatte Ndiaye,J.L. Ndiaye,Daouda Ndiaye,Cheikh Sokhna,Jules F. Gomis,Yémou Dieng,Omar Faye,Omar Ndir,Paul Milligan,Matthew Cairns,Rachel Hallett,Colin J. Sutherland,Oumar Gaye +18 more
TL;DR: The sensitivity of P. falciparum to SMC drugs should be regularly monitored in areas deploying this intervention, as the prevalence of genotypes associated with resistance to either SP or AQ was lower in SMC areas due to the reduced number of parasitaemia individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Amodiaquine Dosage and Tolerability for Intermittent Preventive Treatment To Prevent Malaria in Children
Matthew Cairns,Badara Cisse,Badara Cisse,Cheikh Sokhna,Cécile Cames,Kirsten B. Simondon,El-Hadj Ba,Jean-François Trape,Gaye O,Brian Greenwood,Paul Milligan +10 more
TL;DR: Simple amendments to current AQ dosing schedules based on the child's age could substantially increase dosing accuracy and thus improve the tolerability of IPTc using SP-amodiaquine in situations where weighing the child is impractical.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of intermittent preventive treatment for malaria during infancy on serological responses to measles and other vaccines used in the Expanded Programme on Immunization: results from five randomised controlled trials
TL;DR: This analysis supports the WHO recommendation for coadministration of IPTi with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine to infants at the time of the second and third doses of DTP and measles vaccination, in areas of sub-Saharan Africa with moderate to high malaria transmission and where malaria parasites are sensitive to these drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seasonal malaria chemoprevention in the Sahel subregion of Africa: a cost-effectiveness and cost-savings analysis.
Colin Gilmartin,Justice Nonvignon,Matthew Cairns,Paul Milligan,Fadima Yaya Bocoum,Peter Winskill,Diego Moroso,David Collins +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a cost-effectiveness and cost-savings analysis of a large-scale, multi-country seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) campaign with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine plus amodiaquine for children younger than 5 years in seven countries in the Sahel subregion (Burkina Faso, Chad, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and The Gambia) in 2016 is presented.
