Journal ArticleDOI
Daptomycin versus Standard Therapy for Bacteremia and Endocarditis Caused by Staphylococcus aureus
Vance G. Fowler,Helen W. Boucher,G. Ralph Corey,Elias Abrutyn,Adolf W. Karchmer,Mark E. Rupp,Donald P. Levine,Henry F. Chambers,Francis P. Tally,Gloria Vigliani,Christopher H. Cabell,Arthur Stanley Link,Ignace DeMeyer,Scott G. Filler,Marcus J. Zervos,Paul P. Cook,Jeffrey Parsonnet,Jack M. Bernstein,Connie S. Price,Graeme N. Forrest,Gerd Fätkenheuer,Marcelo Gareca,Susan J. Rehm,Hans Reinhardt Brodt,Alan D. Tice,Sara E. Cosgrove +25 more
TL;DR: Daptomycin (6 mg per kilogram daily) is not inferior to standard therapy for S. aureus bacteremia and right-sided endocarditis and met prespecified criteria for the noninferiority of daptomecin.
Journal ArticleDOI
MCF-7 breast cancer cells transfected with protein kinase C-alpha exhibit altered expression of other protein kinase C isoforms and display a more aggressive neoplastic phenotype.
D. K. Ways,Cynthia A. Kukoly,James E. deVente,J. Hooker,Winifred O. Bryant,Karla J. Posekany,Donald J. Fletcher,Paul P. Cook,Peter J. Parker +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the PKC pathway may modulate progression of breast cancer to a more aggressive neoplastic process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of phorbol esters on protein kinase C-zeta.
TL;DR: KPC-zeta does not translocate or down-regulate in response to phorbol esters or diacylglycerol derivatives, however, for reasons discussed these studies do not resolve the issue of whether this isoform is activated by TPA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pyrazinamide and Rifampin vs Isoniazid for the Treatment of Latent Tuberculosis: Improved Completion Rates But More Hepatotoxicity
TL;DR: The risk of hepatitis in patients receiving pyrazinamide/rifampin for prevention of latent tuberculosis is increased threefold as compared to patients receiving isoniazid.
Journal ArticleDOI
The impact of penicillin skin testing on clinical practice and antimicrobial stewardship
Ramzy H. Rimawi,Paul P. Cook,Michael Gooch,Badih A. Kabchi,Muhammad Salman Ashraf,Bassam H. Rimawi,Mulugeta Gebregziabher,Dawd S. Siraj +7 more
TL;DR: Patients with a history of penicillin allergy who have a negative PST result are at a low risk of developing an immediate-type hypersensitivity reaction to β-lactam antibiotics and the increased use of PST may help improve antibiotic stewardship in the hospital setting.
