TL;DR: This report suggests various steps that different stakeholders can take to improve the verifiability of claims made about AI systems and their associated development processes, with a focus on providing evidence about the safety, security, fairness, and privacy protection of AI systems.
Autonomous Systems: Issues for Defence Policymakers
James M Anderson,Benoit Arbour,Roberta Arnold,Thomas Kadiofsky,Thomas M. Keeley,Matthew R. MacLeod,Sean Bourdon,Rebecca Crootof,John Matsumura,Chris Mayer,Mark Roorda,Pertti Saariluoma,Paul Scharre,Brandon Suarez,Christoph Sulzbachner,Erik Theunissen,Andreas Tolk,Andrew Williams,Christian Zinner +18 more
TL;DR: This work states that autonomous systems, in their current state, lack the robustness and flexibility of human intelligence and are not appropriate for many tasks, so human-machine teaming to combine the best of each will result in the most capable future force.

A Stable Nuclear Future The Impact of Autonomous Systems and Artificial Intelligence
TL;DR: It is argued that countries may be more likely to use risky forms of autonomy when they fear that their second-strike capabilities will be undermined, and there should be many applications of more autonomous systems in nuclear operations that can increase reliability, reduce the risk of accidents, and buy more time for decision-makers in a crisis.

Artificial Intelligence and Arms Control
Paul Scharre,Megan Lamberth +1 more
TL;DR: Scharre et al. as mentioned in this paper argue that success or failure depends on the desirability (i.e., a weapon's military value versus its perceived horribleness) and feasibility (e.g., sociopolitical factors that influence its success) of arms control.
