Cadmium-induced inflammatory responses in cells relevant for lung toxicity: Expression and release of cytokines in fibroblasts, epithelial cells and macrophages
Marit Låg,Dmitrii G. Rodionov,Johan Øvrevik,Oddmund Bakke,Oddmund Bakke,Per E. Schwarze,Magne Refsnes +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Cd(2+) at fairly low concentrations affects gene expression of several different cytokines/chemokines in human M1 fibroblasts, suggesting that inflammation may contribute in Cd-induced lung damage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early-Life Environmental Exposures and Childhood Obesity: An Exposome-Wide Approach
Martine Vrijheid,Serena Fossati,Léa Maitre,Sandra Marquez,Theano Roumeliotaki,Lydiane Agier,Sandra Andrusaityte,Solène Cadiou,Maribel Casas,Montserrat de Castro,Audrius Dedele,David Donaire-Gonzalez,Regina Grazuleviciene,Line Småstuen Haug,Rosemary R. C. McEachan,Helle Margrete Meltzer,Eleni Papadopouplou,Oliver Robinson,Amrit Kaur Sakhi,Valérie Siroux,Jordi Sunyer,Per E. Schwarze,Ibon Tamayo-Uria,Jose Urquiza,Marina Vafeiadi,Antònia Valentín,Charline Warembourg,John Wright,Mark J. Nieuwenhuijsen,Cathrine Thomsen,Xavier Basagaña,Rémy Slama,Leda Chatzi +32 more
TL;DR: This first comprehensive and systematic analysis of many suspected environmental obesogens strengthens evidence for an association of smoking, air pollution exposure, and characteristics of the built environment with childhood obesity risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fluoride-Induced Apoptosis in Epithelial Lung Cells Involves Activation of MAP Kinases p38 and Possibly JNK
TL;DR: Observations indicate that activation of MAP kinases p38 and possibly JNK are involved in NaF-induced apoptosis of epithelial lung cells, whereas ERK activation seems to counteract apoptosis in epithelial Lung cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mineral and/or metal content as critical determinants of particle-induced release of IL-6 and IL-8 from A549 cells.
TL;DR: Mineral composition and/or metal contents of particles from different stone quarries were critical determinants for the marked differences in potency to induce cytokine responses in human epithelial lung cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phthalate levels in Norwegian indoor air related to particle size fraction
Kirsten Eline Rakkestad,Christian Dye,Karl Espen Yttri,Jørn A. Holme,Jan K. Hongslo,Per E. Schwarze,Rune Becher +6 more
TL;DR: The analyses indicate that tyre wear was of minor importance for indoor levels of both DBP as well as total phthalates, which supports the notion that inhalation of indoor PM contributes to the totalphthalate exposure.
