Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term exposure to fine particle elemental components and lung cancer incidence in the ELAPSE pooled cohort.
Ulla Arthur Hvidtfeldt,Jie Chen,Zorana Jovanovic Andersen,Richard Atkinson,Mariska Bauwelinck,Tom Bellander,Jørgen Brandt,Bert Brunekreef,Giulia Cesaroni,Hans Concin,Daniela Fecht,Francesco Forastiere,Carla H. van Gils,John S. Schwarze,Gianluca Severi,Torben Sigsgaard,Massimo Stafoggia,Maciej Strak,Danielle Vienneau,Gudrun Weinmayr,Kathrin Wolf,Ole Raaschou-Nielsen +47 more
TL;DR: The results point towards an increased risk of lung cancer in connection with sources of combustion particles from oil and biomass burning and secondary inorganic aerosols rather than non-exhaust traffic emissions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prenatal and Childhood Traffic-Related Air Pollution Exposure and Telomere Length in European Children: The HELIX Project.
Diana B.P. Clemente,Martine Vrijheid,Martine Vrijheid,Dries S. Martens,Mariona Bustamante,Mariona Bustamante,Leda Chatzi,Leda Chatzi,Leda Chatzi,Asta Danileviciute,Montserrat de Castro,Montserrat de Castro,Regina Grazuleviciene,Kristine B. Gutzkow,Johanna Lepeule,Léa Maitre,Léa Maitre,Rosie McEachan,Oliver Robinson,Per E. Schwarze,Ibon Tamayo,Marina Vafeiadi,John Wright,Rémy Slama,Mark J. Nieuwenhuijsen,Mark J. Nieuwenhuijsen,Tim S. Nawrot,Tim S. Nawrot +27 more
TL;DR: Lower exposures to air pollution during pregnancy and childhood were associated with longer telomeres in European children at 8 y of age, suggesting that reductions in traffic-related air pollution may promote molecular longevity, as exemplified by telomere length, from early life onward.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human exposure to hydrogen fluoride induces acute neutrophilic, eicosanoid, and antioxidant changes in nasal lavage fluid.
K Lund,Magne Refsnes,I Ramis,C Dunster,J Boe,Per E. Schwarze,E Skovlund,Frank Kelly,Johny Kongerud +8 more
TL;DR: Exposure to HF induced immediate nasal inflammatory and antioxidant responses in healthy human volunteers and may contribute to a further understanding of the way HF exerts damage to the airways and show that HF could represent an occupational hazard.
Journal ArticleDOI
Different particle determinants induce apoptosis and cytokine release in primary alveolar macrophage cultures
TL;DR: The data suggest that the particle surface reactivity was critical for cytokine responses, but contributed less to cell death for the types of particles tested, including mylonite and gabbro.
Journal ArticleDOI
Personal assessment of the external exposome during pregnancy and childhood in Europe
David Donaire-Gonzalez,Ariadna Curto,Antònia Valentín,Sandra Andrusaityte,Xavier Basagaña,Maribel Casas,Leda Chatzi,Jeroen de Bont,Montserrat de Castro,Audrius Dedele,Berit Granum,Regina Grazuleviciene,Mariza Kampouri,Sarah Lyon-Caen,Cyntia B. Schwarze,Rémy Slama,Oliver Robinson,Ibon Tamayo-Uria,Marina Vafeiadi,Dagmar Waiblinger,John Wright,Martine Vrijheid,Mark J. Nieuwenhuijsen +29 more
TL;DR: The levels of personal external exposures in both pregnant women and children are above the health recommendations, and there is little correlation between the different exposures.
