Journal ArticleDOI
No benefits from combining chloroquine with artesunate for three days for treatment of Plasmodium falciparum in Guinea-Bissau.
TL;DR: Neither an antagonistic, an additive, or a synergistic effect of the 2 drugs was indicated for children infected with Plasmodium falciparum in Guinea-Bissau from March 2000 to November 2001 and the outcome was similar to the outcome of chloroquine monotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tuberculosis case finding and mortality prediction: added value of the clinical TBscore and biomarker suPAR.
Frauke Rudolf,A-J Wagner,F M Back,Victor F Gomes,Peter Aaby,Lars Østergaard,Jesper Eugen-Olsen,Christian Wejse +7 more
TL;DR: The proposed composite score of suPAR + TBscore II 7 can improve TB case finding and clinical monitoring and be a separate and composite ability to predict PTB diagnosis and mortality in prePTB patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccination at birth and in vitro cytokine responses to non-specific stimulation. A randomized clinical trial
Thomas Nørrelykke Nissen,Nina Marie Birk,Bastiaan A. Blok,Bastiaan A. Blok,Bastiaan A. Blok,Rob J.W. Netea,Christine Stabell Benn,Christine Stabell Benn,Ole Pryds +19 more
TL;DR: At 4 days post randomization, BCG was associated with higher cytokine production in the later randomized children, and this effect was found among children who were vaccinated at age 2–7 days versus age 0–1 days.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of maternal micronutrient supplementation on fetal loss and under-2-years child mortality: long-term follow-up of a randomised controlled trial from Guinea-Bissau.
Gregers S. Andersen,Henrik Friis,Kim F. Michaelsen,Amabelia Rodrigues,Christine Stabell Benn,Peter Aaby,Pernille Kæstel +6 more
TL;DR: The effect of two different preparations of antenatal MMS on fetal loss and under-2-years child mortality, as compared with iron-folic acid supplementation among 2,100 pregnant women in Guinea-Bissau is examined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neonatal BCG vaccination has no effect on recurrent wheeze in the first year of life: A randomized clinical trial
Lisbeth Marianne Thøstesen,Lone Graff Stensballe,Gitte Thybo Pihl,Jesper Kjaergaard,Nina Marie Birk,Thomas Nørrelykke Nissen,Aksel Karl Georg Jensen,Peter Aaby,Annette Wind Olesen,Dorthe Lisbeth Jeppesen,Christine Stabell Benn,Poul-Erik Kofoed +11 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that BCG at birth would reduce the cumulative incidence of RW during the first year of life and that Neonatal BCG had no effect on the development of RW before 13 months of age.
