Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association study identifies three novel genetic markers associated with elite endurance performance
Ildus I. Ahmetov,Nickolay A. Kulemin,Daniil V. Popov,Vladimir Naumov,Egor B. Akimov,Yan R. Bravy,Emiliya S. Egorova,Albina A Galeeva,Edward V. Generozov,Elena S. Kostryukova,Andrey K. Larin,Leysan J. Mustafina,Elena A. Ospanova,Alexander V. Pavlenko,Linda M. Starnes,Piotr Żmijewski,Dmitry G. Alexeev,Olga Vinogradova,Vadim M. Govorun +18 more
TL;DR: The data show that the NFIA-AS2 rs1572312, TSHR rs7144481 and RBFOX1 rs7191721 polymorphisms are associated with aerobic performance and elite endurance athlete status.
Journal ArticleDOI
AGTR2 gene polymorphism is associated with muscle fibre composition, athletic status and aerobic performance
Leysan J. Mustafina,Vladimir Naumov,Paweł Cięszczyk,Daniil V. Popov,Ekaterina V. Lyubaeva,Elena S. Kostryukova,Olga N. Fedotovskaya,Anastasiya M. Druzhevskaya,Irina V. Astratenkova,Andrey S. Glotov,Dmitry G. Alexeev,Milyausha M. Mustafina,Emiliya S. Egorova,Agnieszka Maciejewska-Karlowska,Andrey K. Larin,Edward V. Generozov,Ruslan E. Nurullin,Zbigniew Jastrzębski,Nickolay A. TL;DR: It is shown that the AGTR2 rs11091046 C allele is associated with an increased proportion of slow‐twitch muscle fibres, endurance athlete status and aerobic performance, which has important implications for the understanding of muscle function in both health and disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interaction Between ACE I/D and ACTN3 R557X Polymorphisms in Polish Competitive Swimmers
Agata Grenda,Agata Leońska-Duniec,Mariusz Kaczmarczyk,Krzysztof Ficek,Paweł Król,Paweł Cięszczyk,Piotr Żmijewski +6 more
TL;DR: The combined analysis of the two loci suggests that the co-occurrence of the ACE I and ACTN3 X alleles may be beneficial to swimmers who compete in long distance races.
Journal ArticleDOI
Temperament as a modulating factor of pain sensitivity in combat sport athletes.
Katarzyna Leźnicka,Anna Starkowska,Maciej Tomczak,Paweł Cięszczyk,Monika Białecka,Maria Ligocka,Piotr Żmijewski,Maciej Pawlak +7 more
TL;DR: The athletes and students in the study groups differed significantly with regard to intensity of four temperamental traits, but after BMI adjustments only group differences in Preservation, Sensory sensitivity and Emotional reactivity remained significant'.
Journal Article
Are IL1B, IL6 and IL6R Gene Variants Associated with Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture Susceptibility?
Ewelina Lulińska-Kuklik,Ewelina Maculewicz,Waldemar Moska,Krzysztof Ficek,Mariusz Kaczmarczyk,Monika Michałowska-Sawczyn,Kinga Humińska-Lisowska,Maciej Buryta,Jakub Chycki,Paweł Cięszczyk,Piotr Żmijewski,Agata Rzeszutko,Marek Sawczuk,Petr Stastny,Miroslav Petr,Agnieszka Maciejewska-Skrendo +15 more
TL;DR: The aim of the case-control study was to verify the hypothesis that sequence variants rs1143627, rs16944, rs1800795, rs2228145 in the IL1B, IL6 and IL6R genes are associated with ACL rupture susceptibility in a Polish population.
