TL;DR: Functional analysis of gut microbiota samples from 96 healthy Russian adult subjects shows that the metabolic pathways exhibiting differential abundance in the novel types are primarily associated with the trade-off between the Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes phyla.
Journal ArticleDOI
No Evidence of a Common DNA Variant Profile Specific to World Class Endurance Athletes

TL;DR: This study did not identify a panel of genomic variants common to these elite endurance athlete groups, and since GAMES was underpowered to identify alleles with small effect sizes, some of the suggestive leads identified should be explored in expanded comparisons of world-class endurance athletes and sedentary controls and in tightly controlled exercise training studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association study identifies three novel genetic markers associated with elite endurance performance
Ildus I. Ahmetov,Nickolay A. Kulemin,Daniil V. Popov,Vladimir Naumov,Egor B. Akimov,Yan R. Bravy,Emiliya S. Egorova,Albina A Galeeva,Edward V. Generozov,Elena S. Kostryukova,Andrey K. Larin,Leysan J. Mustafina,Elena A. Ospanova,Alexander V. Pavlenko,Linda M. Starnes,Piotr Żmijewski,Dmitry G. Alexeev,Olga Vinogradova,Vadim M. Govorun +18 more
TL;DR: The data show that the NFIA-AS2 rs1572312, TSHR rs7144481 and RBFOX1 rs7191721 polymorphisms are associated with aerobic performance and elite endurance athlete status.
Journal ArticleDOI
AGTR2 gene polymorphism is associated with muscle fibre composition, athletic status and aerobic performance
Leysan J. Mustafina,Vladimir Naumov,Paweł Cięszczyk,Daniil V. Popov,Ekaterina V. Lyubaeva,Elena S. Kostryukova,Olga N. Fedotovskaya,Anastasiya M. Druzhevskaya,Irina V. Astratenkova,Andrey S. TL;DR: It is shown that the AGTR2 rs11091046 C allele is associated with an increased proportion of slow‐twitch muscle fibres, endurance athlete status and aerobic performance, which has important implications for the understanding of muscle function in both health and disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
SOD2 gene polymorphism and muscle damage markers in elite athletes
Ildus I. Ahmetov,Vladimir Naumov,A E Donnikov,Agnieszka Maciejewska-Karlowska,E. S. Kostryukova,Andrey K. Larin,E V Maykova,Dmitry G. Alexeev,Olga N. Fedotovskaya,Edward V. Pavlenko,A A Podol'skaya,Marek Sawczuk,F K Alimova,D Y Trofimov,Vadim M. Govorun,Paweł Cięszczyk +23 more
TL;DR: The data show that the SOD2 TT genotype might be unfavorable for high-intensity athletic events and associated with increased values of muscle and liver damage biomarkers.
