Kinetics, isotherm, thermodynamic, and adsorption mechanism studies of La(OH)3-modified exfoliated vermiculites as highly efficient phosphate adsorbents

TL;DR: In this paper, a modified exfoliated vermiculite (La5EV) was fabricated, characterized, and investigated for phosphate removal in batch tests for the first time, and the effect of initial phosphate concentration, contact time, temperature, pH, and coexisting ions on the adsorption capacity of La5EV was investigated in detail.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adsorption of ammonium by different natural clay minerals: Characterization, kinetics and adsorption isotherms

TL;DR: In this article, the NH4+ adsorption behavior followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model for six natural clay minerals (NCM) evaluated for the effectiveness of NH4+, and the results showed that the NCM have significant potential as economic, safe and effective adsorbent materials for NH4 + adsorbing from the aqueous solution.
Journal ArticleDOI

A combined study by XRD, FTIR, TG and HRTEM on the structure of delaminated Fe-intercalated/pillared clay

TL;DR: The delaminated Fe-pillared clays show good thermal stability at 500 degrees C and exhibit at this temperature dramatically higher specific surface area and porosity than the starting montmorillonites, however, calcination at a higher temperature leads to the formation of nanocrystalline hematite.
Journal ArticleDOI

Silylation of clay mineral surfaces

TL;DR: In this article, in situ silylation of non-swelling clay mineral surfaces has attracted much attention because silylated products exhibit properties suitable for many applications in materials science and environmental engineering.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adsorption of phenol and Cu(II) onto cationic and zwitterionic surfactant modified montmorillonite in single and binary systems

TL;DR: In this paper, two OMts modified by cationic surfactants (hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide, C16) and zwitterionic surfactant(hexadecyldimethyl (3-sulphonatopropyl) ammonium, Z16) were used to remove phenol and Cu(II) from aqueous solution.
