Journal ArticleDOI
Low thermal conductivity in nanoscale layered materials synthesized by the method of modulated elemental reactants
Catalin Chiritescu,David G. Cahill,Colby L. Heideman,Qiyin Lin,Clay Mortensen,Ngoc T. Nguyen,David W. Johnson,Raimar Rostek,Harald Böttner +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported the room-temperature, cross-plane thermal conductivities, and longitudinal speeds of sound of multilayer films and misfit-layer dichalcogenide films synthesized by the modulated elemental reactants method.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rational Synthesis and Characterization of a New Family of Low Thermal Conductivity Misfit Layer Compounds [(PbSe)0.99]m(WSe2)n†
Qiyin Lin,Mary Smeller,Colby L. Heideman,Paul Zschack,Mikio Koyano,Michael D. Anderson,Robert Kykyneshi,Douglas A. Keszler,Ian M. Anderson,David W. Johnson +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a general synthesis approach for the preparation of new families of misfit layer compounds was described and the first 64 members of the [(PbSe)0.99]m(WSe2)n) family were synthesized by annealing reactant precursors containing m layers of alternating elemental Pb and Se followed by n layers of W and Se, in which the thickness of each pair of elemental layers was calibrated to yield a structural bilayer of rock salt structured PbSe and a trilayer of hexagonal WSe2.
Journal ArticleDOI
The synthesis and characterization of new [(BiSe)1.10]m[NbSe2]n, [(PbSe)1.10]m[NbSe2]n, [(CeSe)1.14]m[NbSe2]n and [(PbSe)1.12]m[TaSe2]n misfit layered compounds ☆
Colby L. Heideman,Ngoc Nyugen,Jonathan Hanni,Qiyin Lin,Scott Duncombe,David W. Johnson,Paul Zschack +6 more
TL;DR: Fifty-three new misfit layered compounds within the [(BiSe) 1.14 ] m [NbSe 2 ] n, and [(PbSe 1.12 ] m[TaSe 2 ], were successfully synthesized as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
In-plane thermal and thermoelectric properties of misfit-layered [(PbSe)0.99]x(WSe2)x superlattice thin films
Anastassios Mavrokefalos,Qiyin Lin,Matt Beekman,Jae Hun Seol,Yong J. Lee,Huijun Kong,Michael T. Pettes,David W. Johnson,Li Shi +8 more
TL;DR: The in-plane thermal conductivity is measured to be three times lower in misfit-layered (PbSe)0.99]x(WSe2)x superlattice thin films than disordered-layer WSe2 because of interface scattering despite a higher crossplane value in the former than the latter as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Designed Synthesis of Families of Misfit‐Layered Compounds
Qiyin Lin,Colby L. Heideman,Ngoc T. Nguyen,Paul Zschack,Catalin Chiritescu,David G. Cahill,David W. Johnson +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the synthesis of misfit-layered compounds is demonstrated, which are crystalline along the c-axis and in the ab-plane, but show very short coherence lengths between ab-planes.
