Expression of Endothelin-1 in the Lungs of Patients with Pulmonary Hypertension
Adel Giaid,Masashi Yanagisawa,David Langleben,René P. Michel,Robert D. Levy,Hani Shennib,Sadao Kimura,Tomoh Masaki,William P. Duguid,Duncan J. Stewart +9 more
TL;DR: Preliminary results suggest that pulmonary hypertension is associated with the increased expression of endothelin-1 in vascular endothelial cells, suggesting that the local production of endethelin- 1 may contribute to the vascular abnormalities associated with this disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI
Application of the Cavalieri principle and vertical sections method to lung: estimation of volume and pleural surface area
TL;DR: This study concentrates on the unbiased estimation of lung volume using Cavalieri's principle compared with the fluid displacement method and measurement of pleural surface area using vertical sections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased Endothelin-1 in Bleomycin-induced Pulmonary Fibrosis and the Effect of an Endothelin Receptor Antagonist
TL;DR: Results indicate that ET-1 is involved in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis in the rodent model and that blockage of its receptors reduces the fibrosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incidence of Second Cancers in Patients Treated for Hodgkin's Disease
Jean-François Boivin,George B. Hutchison,Ann G. Zauber,Leslie Bernstein,Faith G. Davis,René P. Michel,Brent W. Zanke,Charlotte Tan,Lillian M. Fuller,Peter Mauch,John E. Ultmann +10 more
TL;DR: The benefits of treatment of Hodgkin's disease outweigh the risk of a subsequent malignancy, but data on the carcinogenic effects of radiation and drugs beyond 10 years after treatment continue to be sparse, and future analyses should be directed at long-term survivors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primary effusion lymphoma: a series of 4 cases and review of the literature with emphasis on cytomorphologic and immunocytochemical differential diagnosis.
TL;DR: A comparison was made between the cytologic and immunocytochemical features of 4 cases of PEL encountered in the authors' department with those reported to date in the literature.
