Abstract: The attempt to control the proliferation of rabies virus remains a major preoccupation of health authorities worldwide. Effective vaccines based upon inactivated rabies virus have been developed, however the cost of these preparations has impeded systematic preventive vaccination. The techniques of genetic engineering therefore present an attractive alternative.
