Journal ArticleDOI
Prevention of leukostasis and vascular leakage in streptozotocin-induced diabetic retinopathy via intercellular adhesion molecule-1 inhibition
Kazuaki Miyamoto,Samer Khosrof,Sven-Erik Bursell,Richard M. Rohan,Toshinori Murata,Allen C. Clermont,Lloyd Paul Aiello,Yuichiro Ogura,Anthony P. Adamis +8 more
TL;DR: This study shows that diabetic retinal vascular leakage and nonperfusion are temporally and spatially associated with retinal leukocyte stasis (leukostasis) in the rat model of streptozotocin-induced diabetes, and establishes the potential utility of ICAM-1 inhibition as a therapeutic strategy for the prevention of diabetic retinopathy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arteriolar and venular patterning in retinas of mice selectively expressing VEGF isoforms
Ingeborg Stalmans,Yin-Shan Ng,Richard M. Rohan,Marcus Fruttiger,Ann Bouché,Ali Yuce,Hajime Fujisawa,Bart Hermans,Moshe Shani,Sandra Jansen,Dan Hicklin,David J. Anderson,Tom A. Gardiner,Hans-Peter Hammes,Lieve Moons,Mieke Dewerchin,Desire Collen,Peter Carmeliet,Patricia A. D'Amore +18 more
TL;DR: Findings reveal distinct roles of the various VEGF isoforms in vascular patterning and arterial development in the retina in mice selectively expressing single isoforms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reactive oxygen intermediates increase vascular endothelial growth factor expression in vitro and in vivo.
Masatoshi Kuroki,Emile E. Voest,Emile E. Voest,Shiro Amano,Shiro Amano,Laurens V. Beerepoot,Laurens V. Beerepoot,Seiji Takashima,Michael J. Tolentino,Michael J. Tolentino,Rosa Y. Kim,Richard M. Rohan,Kathryn Colby,Kiang-Teck J. Yeo,Anthony P. Adamis,Anthony P. Adamis +15 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that ROIs increase VEGF gene expression in vitro and during the reperfusion of ischemic retina in vivo and the ROI-associated increases are mediated largely through increases in V EGF mRNA stability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential expression of VEGF isoforms in mouse during development and in the adult.
Yin-Shan Ng,Richard M. Rohan,Mary E. Sunday,D.E. Demello,Patricia A. D'Amore,Patricia A. D'Amore +5 more
TL;DR: Targeted exon deletion of the VEGF gene revealed that mice that developed in the absence of the heparan sulfate binding isoforms VegF164 and V EGF188, displayed a variety of vascular defects, including abnormal pulmonary vascular development.
Journal Article
Constitutive expression of VEGF, VEGFR-1, and VEGFR-2 in normal eyes.
Ivana K. Kim,Anne M. Ryan,Richard M. Rohan,Shiro Amano,Stephanie Agular,Joan W. Miller,Anthony P. Adamis +6 more
TL;DR: VEGF, V EGFR-1, and VEGFR-2 are constitutively expressed in the vascularized tissues of normal eyes.
