Journal ArticleDOI

VEGF couples hypertrophic cartilage remodeling, ossification and angiogenesis during endochondral bone formation.

TL;DR: It is shown that VEGF-mediated capillary invasion is an essential signal that regulates growth plate morphogenesis and triggers cartilage remodeling and VEGf is anessential coordinator of chondrocyte death, chondROclast function, extracellular matrix remodeling, angiogenesis and bone formation in the growth plate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Renal and neuronal abnormalities in mice lacking GDNF.

TL;DR: It is shown that at postnatal day 0 (P0), GDNF-deficient mice have deficits in dorsal root ganglion, sympathetic and nodose neurons, but not in hindbrain noradrenergic or midbrain dopaminergic neurons, and GDNF is important for the development and/or survival of enteric, sympathetic, and sensory neurons and the renal system, but is not essential for catecholaminergic neuron in the central nervous system (CNS).
Journal ArticleDOI

VEGF is required for growth and survival in neonatal mice

TL;DR: Endothelial cells isolated from the liver of mFlt(1-3)-IgG-treated neonates demonstrated an increased apoptotic index, indicating that VEGF is required not only for proliferation but also for survival of endothelial cells.
