Journal ArticleDOI
Preoperative versus postoperative radiotherapy in soft-tissue sarcoma of the limbs: a randomised trial
Brian O'Sullivan,Aileen M. Davis,Robert E. Turcotte,Robert E. Turcotte,Robert S. Bell,Robert S. Bell,Charles Catton,Pierre Chabot,Jay S. Wunder,Jay S. Wunder,Rita A. Kandel,Rita A. Kandel,Karen Goddard,Anna Sadura,Joseph L. Pater,Benny Zee +15 more
TL;DR: Overall survival was slightly better in patients who had preoperative radiotherapy than in those who had postoperative treatment, and the size and anatomical site of the tumour was also significant risk factors in multivariate analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Late radiation morbidity following randomization to preoperative versus postoperative radiotherapy in extremity soft tissue sarcoma
Aileen M. Davis,Aileen M. Davis,Brian O'Sullivan,Robert E. Turcotte,Robert S. Bell,Robert S. Bell,Charles Catton,Pierre Chabot,Jay S. Wunder,Jay S. Wunder,A. Hammond,Véronique Benk,Rita A. Kandel,Rita A. Kandel,Karen Goddard,Carolyn R. Freeman,Anna Sadura,Benny Zee,Andrew G. Day,Dongsheng Tu,Joseph L. Pater +20 more
TL;DR: Fibrosis, joint stiffness and edema adversely affect patient function as measured by the Musculoskeletal Tumor Rating Scale and the Toronto Extremity Salvage Score was evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Histological assessment of cartilage repair: a report by the Histology Endpoint Committee of the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS).
Pierre Mainil-Varlet,Thomas Aigner,Mats Brittberg,Peter Bullough,Anthony P. Hollander,Ernst B. Hunziker,Rita A. Kandel,Stefan Nehrer,Kenneth P.H. Pritzker,Sally Roberts,Edouard Stauffer +10 more
TL;DR: Articular cartilage is a narrow layer of specialized connective tissue that permits smooth, frictionless movement of diarthrodial joints that is distinguished by the shape of the chondrocytes and the arrangement of type-II collagen fibers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Engineering complex tissues.
Antonios G. Mikos,Susan W. Herring,Pannee Ochareon,Jennifer H. Elisseeff,Helen H. Lu,Rita A. Kandel,Frederick J. Schoen,Mehmet Toner,David J. Mooney,Anthony Atala,Mark Van Dyke,David L. Kaplan,Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic +12 more
TL;DR: The views expressed at the third session of the workshop "Tissue Engineering--The Next Generation," which was devoted to the engineering of complex tissue structures, included systems providing temporal and spatial regulation of growth factor availability and a clinician's perspective for functional tissue regeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Porous calcium polyphosphate scaffolds for bone substitute applications -- in vitro characterization.
TL;DR: The observed structures, strengths and in vitro degradation characteristics of the porous CPP samples suggested their potential usefulness as bone substitute materials pending subsequent in vivo behaviour assessment.
