Mega-electron-volt ultrafast electron diffraction at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
Stephen Weathersby,Garth Brown,Martin Centurion,T. Chase,Ryan Coffee,Jeff Corbett,J. Eichner,Josef Frisch,Alan Fry,Markus Gühr,Nick Hartmann,C. Hast,Robert Hettel,Renee K. Jobe,Erik Jongewaard,James Lewandowski,Renkai Li,Aaron M. Lindenberg,Igor Makasyuk,Justin May,D. McCormick,M. N. Nguyen,Alexander H. Reid,Xiaozhe Shen,Klaus Sokolowski-Tinten,Theodore Vecchione,Sharon Vetter,Jihuai Wu,Jie Yang,Hermann A. Dürr,Xijie Wang +30 more
TL;DR: The SLAC MeV UED system operates at 120-Hz repetition rate with outstanding performance, including the reciprocal space resolution, temporal resolution, and machine stability.
Journal ArticleDOI
DLSR design and plans: an international overview
TL;DR: A review of fourth-generation ring design concepts and plans in the world is presented and it is suggested that future larger-circumference rings, possibly housed in >2-km tunnels made available by decommissioned high-energy physics accelerators, could have sub-10-pm-rad emittances, providing very high coherence for >10-keV X-rays.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamic Structural Response and Deformations of Monolayer MoS2 Visualized by Femtosecond Electron Diffraction
Mannebach Ehren,Renkai Li,Karel-Alexander N. Duerloo,Clara Nyby,Peter Zalden,Theodore Vecchione,Friederike Ernst,Friederike Ernst,Alexander H. Reid,T. Chase,T. Chase,Xiaozhe Shen,Stephen Weathersby,C. Hast,Robert Hettel,Ryan Coffee,Nick Hartmann,Alan Fry,Yifei Yu,Linyou Cao,Tony F. Heinz,Tony F. Heinz,Evan J. Reed,Evan J. Reed,Hermann A. Dürr,Xijie Wang,Aaron M. Lindenberg,Aaron M. Lindenberg +27 more
TL;DR: It is shown that optical excitation induces large-amplitude in-plane displacements and ultrafast wrinkling of the monolayer on nanometer length-scales, developing on picosecond time-sc scales, which provides a new understanding of the dynamic structural processes that underlie the functionality of two-dimensional materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultimate storage ring based on fourth-order geometric achromats
TL;DR: In this article, the authors designed an ''ultimate'' storage ring for a future light source that would be resided in the positron-electron-project (PEP) tunnel and achieves the diffractionlimited emittances (at 1.5 \AA{}) of 12 pm-rad in both horizontal and vertical planes with a 4.5-GeV electron beam.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Potential of an Ultimate Storage Ring for Future Light Sources
M. Bei,Michael Borland,Yunhai Cai,P. Elleaume,R. Gerig,Katherine Harkay,Louis Emery,Andrew Hutton,Robert Hettel,R. Nagaoka,David Robin,Christoph Steier +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors address the accelerator design issues related to the next generation of storage ring light sources, termed "ultimate storage rings", and identify several important areas of R&D that should be pursued to enable the realization of the full potential of ultimate storage rings.
