Journal ArticleDOI

Preservation of corals in salt-saturated DMSO buffer is superior to ethanol for PCR experiments

TL;DR: It is found that soft tissue integrity was better maintained and higher quantities of DNA were extracted from EtOH-preserved specimens; however, by all other measures, SSD was a superior preservative to EtOH.
Journal ArticleDOI

Isolation by distance across the Hawaiian Archipelago in the reef-building coral Porites lobata.

TL;DR: Cluster analysis and measures of genetic differentiation indicated that while the majority of ongoing gene flow in Hawaiian P. lobata occurs among geographically proximate reefs, inter‐island distances are insufficient to generate strong population structure across the archipelago.
Journal ArticleDOI

An alternative to ITS, a hypervariable, single-copy nuclear intron in corals, and its use in detecting cryptic species within the octocoral genus Carijoa

TL;DR: This case study with the octocoral C. riisei shows that variation in SRP54 appears sufficient to address questions of phylogeography as well as systematics of closely related species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biological and physical interactions on a tropical island coral reef transport and retention processes on Moorea, French Polynesia

TL;DR: The Oceanography Society as mentioned in this paper has granted permission to copy this article for use in teaching and research, but only with the approval of the Oceanography society, which is required by the Copyright Act.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increasing comparability among coral bleaching experiments

TL;DR: A recent review of published experiments revealed a wide range of experimental variables used across studies as discussed by the authors, but without full transparency in the experimental and analytical methods used, can also make comparisons among studies challenging.
