Journal ArticleDOI
Neuronal Thy-1 induces astrocyte adhesion by engaging syndecan-4 in a cooperative interaction with αvβ3 integrin that activates PKCα and RhoA
Ana M. Avalos,Alejandra Valdivia,Nicolás Muñoz,Rodrigo Herrera-Molina,Julio C. Tapia,Sergio Lavandero,Mario Chiong,Keith Burridge,Pascal Schneider,Andrew F. G. Quest,Lisette Leyton +10 more
TL;DR: Combined interaction of the astrocyte αvβ3-integrin–syndecan-4 receptor pair with Thy-1, promotes adhesion to the underlying matrix via PKCα- and RhoA-dependent pathways.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Neuroplastin adhesion molecules: key regulators of neuronal plasticity and synaptic function.
Philip W. Beesley,Rodrigo Herrera-Molina,Rodrigo Herrera-Molina,Karl-Heinz Smalla,Constanze I. Seidenbecher +4 more
TL;DR: The physiological roles of the Neuroplastins in promoting neurite outgrowth, regulating the structure and function of both inhibitory and excitatory synapses in brain, and in neuronal and synaptic plasticity are focused on.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transforming growth factor-β1 produced by hippocampal cells modulates microglial reactivity in culture
TL;DR: The findings suggest that the TGF beta1 secreted by hippocampal cells modulated microglial activity and propose that in pathological conditions, impairment of this modulatory mechanism could enhance microglia-mediated neurotoxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct Thy-1/αVβ3 integrin interaction mediates neuron to astrocyte communication
Tamara Hermosilla,Daniel Muñoz,Rodrigo Herrera-Molina,Alejandra Valdivia,Nicolás Muñoz,Sang Uk Nham,Pascal Schneider,Keith Burridge,Andrew F. G. Quest,Lisette Leyton +9 more
TL;DR: Evidence was obtained that the alphavbeta3 integrin heterodimer interacts directly with Thy-1 present on neuronal cells to stimulate astrocytes, demonstrating the requirement of both integrin subunits for this association.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic Toxoplasma infection is associated with distinct alterations in the synaptic protein composition
Daniel Lang,Daniel Lang,Björn H. Schott,Björn H. Schott,Marco van Ham,Lorena Morton,Leonora Kulikovskaja,Leonora Kulikovskaja,Rodrigo Herrera-Molina,Rainer Pielot,Frank Klawonn,Dirk Montag,Lothar Jänsch,Eckart D. Gundelfinger,Eckart D. Gundelfinger,Karl-Heinz Smalla,Ildiko Rita Dunay +16 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the detected synaptic alterations are a consequence of the distinct neuroinflammatory milieu caused by the neurotropic parasite T. gondii-infected mice with a downregulation of pivotal components of glutamatergic neurotransmission.
