Journal ArticleDOI

Weight-Reducing Effects of the Plasma Protein Encoded by the obese Gene

TL;DR: Injection of wild-type mice twice daily with the mouse protein resulted in a sustained 12 percent weight loss, decreased food intake, and a reduction of body fat from 12.2 to 0.7 percent, suggesting that the OB protein serves an endocrine function to regulate body fat stores.
Journal ArticleDOI

Serum leptin levels in the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome

TL;DR: It was found that leptin levels were not increased relative to body fat in patients who were anorectic, were losing weight, or had a history of weight loss, suggesting that elevations in leptin do not play a key role in the anorexia of infections associated with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.

A leptin binding protein and its use in methods for diagnosing and treating abnormalities of the endogenous leptin pathway

Roger Lallone, +1 more
TL;DR: A leptin binding protein that plays a novel role in the regulation of adiposity and fat content of animals, particularly in mammals, has been revealed in this article, which exploits this novel role of the leptin binding proteins by providing means for diagnosing, monitoring, treating and curing abnormalities of the endogenous leptin pathway.
