Journal ArticleDOI

Tiling of the five-fold surface of Al(70)Pd(21)Mn(9)

TL;DR: In this paper, a tiling of the surface of the terraces of Al(70)Pd(21)Mn(9) has been constructed using pentagonal prototiles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tiling of the fivefold surface of Al70Pd21Mn9

TL;DR: In this paper, a pentagonal prototiles tiling of the surface of Al70Pd21Mn9 was constructed using high-resolution images of the terraces, and the results provided direct confirmation that the fivefold surface of i-Al-Pd-Mn is a termination of the bulk structure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Copper adsorption on the fivefold Al70Pd21Mn9 quasicrystal surface

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported the formation of a quasiperiodic Cu thin film on the fivefold icosahedral Al-Pd-Mn quasicrystal using scanning tunneling microscopy, low energy electron diffraction, and Auger electron spectroscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Top-site adsorption for K on Cu(111) and Ni(111) surfaces

TL;DR: The inability to obtain SEXAFS data from K at lower coverages on these surfaces and at these temperatures, indicative of disorder/multisite occupation, is further evidence of a relatively weak alkali-metal substrate interaction even in the dilute-adatom, nonmetallic-overlayer regime.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface vacancies at the fivefold icosahedral Al-Pd-Mn quasicrystal surface: A comparison of ab initio calculated and experimental STM images

TL;DR: In this article, a direct comparison of the experimental images obtained from the STM with the ab initio calculated STM images reveals that the characteristic features of the images can also be created by truncated Bergman clusters as it has been supposed up to now.
