Turbulent transport reduction by zonal flows : Massively parallel simulations
TL;DR: Three-dimensional gyrokinetic simulations of microturbulence in magnetically confined toroidal plasmas with massively parallel computers showed that, with linear flow damping, an asymptotic residual flow develops in agreement with analytic calculations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Excitation of internal kink modes by trapped energetic beam ions
TL;DR: In this article, a model for the instability cycle of a tokamak with trapped particles was proposed. But the model was not suitable for the case of the fishbone event.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hamiltonian guiding center drift orbit calculation for plasmas of arbitrary cross section
Roscoe White,M. S. Chance +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a Hamiltonian guiding center drift orbit formalism was developed for particle trajectories in magnetic field configurations of arbitrary cross section with arbitrary plasma β, where the magnetic field is assumed to be a small perturbation from a zero-order "equilibrium" field possessing magnetic surfaces.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this paper, strong magnetohydrodynamic activity has been observed in PDX neutral-beam-heated discharges and is associated with a significant loss of fast ions and a drop in neutron emission.
Journal ArticleDOI
Saturation of the tearing mode
TL;DR: In this paper, a quasi-linear analytical model is used to describe the nonlinear growth and saturation of tearing modes with mode number m⩾2 and the saturation amplitude is dependent on the form of the resistivity.
