Journal ArticleDOI

Reversing a model of Parkinson’s disease with in situ converted nigral neurons

TL;DR: An efficient one-step conversion of isolated mouse and human astrocytes to functional neurons by depleting the RNA-binding protein PTB is reported, identifying a potentially powerful and clinically feasible approach to treating neurodegeneration by replacing lost neurons.
Journal ArticleDOI

Therapeutically viable generation of neurons with antisense oligonucleotide suppression of PTB

TL;DR: In this article, an antisense oligonucleotide was used to induce new neurons in the cortex and dentate gyrus of the aged adult mouse brain by transiently suppressing polypyrimidine tract binding protein (PTRB) 1 using an antisensense oligone nucleotide delivered by a single injection into cerebral spinal fluid.
