Journal ArticleDOI
Source origin of trace elements in PM from regional background, urban and industrial sites of Spain
Xavier Querol,Mar Viana,Andrés Alastuey,Fulvio Amato,Teresa Moreno,S. Castillo,Jorge Pey,J. de la Rosa,A.M. Sánchez de la Campa,Begoña Artíñano,Pedro Salvador,S. García Dos Santos,Rosalía Fernández-Patier,Stella Moreno-Grau,L. Negral,María Cruz Minguillón,Eliseo Monfort,J.I. Gil,A. Inza,Luis Angel Ortega,Jesús Miguel Santamaría,J. Zabalza +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper, trace element concentrations in PM10 and PM2.5 were determined at 33 monitoring stations in Spain throughout the period 1995-2006, at sites with no significant industrial development allowed them to define usual concentration ranges for a number of trace elements in rural and urban background environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Geochemical variations in aeolian mineral particles from the Sahara-Sahel Dust Corridor.
Teresa Moreno,Xavier Querol,S. Castillo,Andrés Alastuey,Emilio Cuevas,Ludger Herrmann,Mohammed Mounkaila,Josep Elvira,Wes Gibbons +8 more
TL;DR: Dusts blown into the Sahara-Sahel Dust Corridor from sub-Saharan Africa during the summer monsoon source from deeply chemically weathered terrains and are therefore likely to be more kaolinitic and stripped of mobile elements, but retain immobile and resistant elements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial and temporal variations in airborne particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) across Spain 1999–2005
Xavier Querol,Andrés Alastuey,Teresa Moreno,Mar Viana,S. Castillo,Jorge Pey,Sergio Rodríguez,Begoña Artíñano,Pedro Salvador,Miguel Sánchez,S. García Dos Santos,M. D. Herce Garraleta,Rosalía Fernández-Patier,Stella Moreno-Grau,L. Negral,María Cruz Minguillón,María Cruz Minguillón,Eliseo Monfort,María José Sanz,R. Palomo-Marín,E. Pinilla-Gil,Emilio Cuevas,J. de la Rosa,A.M. Sánchez de la Campa +23 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the average ranges of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) concentrations and chemical composition in Spain show significant variations across the country, with current PM10 levels at several industrial and traffic hotspots exceeding recommended pollution limits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wet and dry African dust episodes over eastern Spain
Miguel Escudero,S. Castillo,Xavier Querol,Anna Avila,Marta Alarcón,Mar Viana,Andrés Alastuey,Emilio Cuevas,Sergio Rodríguez +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of the African dust on levels of atmospheric suspended particulate matter (SPM) and on wet deposition was evaluated in eastern Iberia for the period 1996-2002.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterisation of TSP and PM2.5 at Izaña and Sta. Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) during a Saharan Dust Episode (July 2002)
Andrés Alastuey,Xavier Querol,S. Castillo,Miguel Escudero,Miguel Escudero,Anna Avila,Emilio Cuevas,Carlos Torres,Pedro-Miguel Romero,Francisco J. Expósito,Omaira García,J. Pedro Diaz,Rita Van Dingenen,Jean Philippe Putaud +13 more
TL;DR: A strong African dust outbreak episode affecting the Canary Islands from 28 to 31/07/02 has been characterised at the Izana Observatory (IZO), located in the free troposphere (FT), and at Sta. Cruz de Tenerife (SCO), in the Marine Boundary Layer (MBL) as mentioned in this paper.
