TL;DR: There has been much recent interest in nuclear fission, due in part to a new appreciation of its relevance to astrophysics, stability of superheavy elements, and fundamental theory of neutrino interactions as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: In this paper, the fusion cross-section was extracted through the direct measurement of evaporation residues resulting from the fusion process, and the fusion excitation function was measured for 18 O + 12 C and 19 O+ 12 C. At near barrier energies, the single additional neutron present in 19 O results in an enhancement in fusion crosssection by a factor over three as compared to 18 O.
