Snake Venom Peptides and Low Mass Proteins: Molecular Tools and Therapeutic Agents.
José R. Almeida,L.M. Resende,R. K. Watanabe,Victor Corasolla Carregari,Salomón Huancahuire-Vega,C. A. da S. Caldeira,Antonio Coutinho-Neto,Andreimar Martins Soares,Nuno Vale,P. A. de C. Gomes,Sergio Marangoni,L. de A. Calderon,S. L. Da Silva +12 more
TL;DR: The present review looks at the main peptides (natriuretic peptides, bradykinin-potentiating peptides and sarafotoxins) and low mass proteins (crotamine, disintegrins and three-Finger toxins) from snake venoms, as well as synthetic peptides inspired by them, describing their biochemical, structural and physiological features, aswell as their applications as research tools and therapeutic agents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biochemical and biological characterization of a PLA2 from crotoxin complex of Crotalus durissus cumanensis.
Jaime Andrés Pereañez,Vitelbina Núñez,Salomón Huancahuire-Vega,Sergio Marangoni,Luis Alberto Ponce-Soto +4 more
TL;DR: A new PLA2 from crotoxin complex of Colombian Crotalus durissus cumanensis rattlesnake was purified using molecular exclusion chromatography and RP-HPLC and showed high content of basic and hydrophobic amino acids andComparison of amino acid sequence data showed that Cdcum6 shares the highest sequence identity with Cdr13 an isoform PLA2 with a strict requirement of Ca2+ for its activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isolation and functional characterization of a new acidic PLA(2) Ba SpII RP4 of the Bothrops alternatus snake venom from Argentina.
María E. Garcia Denegri,Ofelia Acosta,Salomón Huancahuire-Vega,Daniel Martins-de-Souza,Sergio Marangoni,Silvana Maruñak,Gladys Pamela Teibler,Laura C. Leiva,Luis Alberto Ponce-Soto +8 more
TL;DR: An acidic protein with phospholipase A(2) activity was purified to homogeneity from the venom of the Northeast Argentinian viperid Bothrops alternatus by two chromatographic steps: a conventional gel filtration on Sephadex G-75 and reversed phase on C18 HPLC column, displaying a homodimer conformation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural bases for a complete myotoxic mechanism: Crystal structures of two non-catalytic phospholipases A2-like from Bothrops brazili venom
Carlos A.H. Fernandes,Edson José Comparetti,Rafael J. Borges,Salomón Huancahuire-Vega,Luis Alberto Ponce-Soto,Sergio Marangoni,Andreimar M. Soares,Marcos R.M. Fontes +7 more
TL;DR: The crystal structures of two Lys49-PLA2s from B. brazili venom are described and two independent sites of interaction were identified between protein and membrane which leads to the proposition of a new myotoxic mechanism for bothropic Lys 49- PLA2s composed of five different steps.
Journal ArticleDOI
Health-Related Quality of Life, Blood Pressure, and Biochemical and Anthropometric Profile in Vegetarians and Nonvegetarians.
Jacksaint Saintila,Tabita E. Lozano López,Percy G. Ruiz Mamani,Michael White,Salomón Huancahuire-Vega +4 more
TL;DR: In conclusion, vegetarians presented a better anthropometric profile, lower glycaemia, and higher LDL levels but no significant differences in health-related quality of life compared with nonvegetarians.
