Metastatic Patterns of Cancers: Results From a Large Autopsy Study
Guy diSibio,Samuel W. French +1 more
TL;DR: Not surprisingly, different primary cancers tended to metastasize, with differing frequencies, to different sites, which might be helpful in deducing the origins of cancers whose primary sites are unclear at presentation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Th1-Th17 Cells Mediate Protective Adaptive Immunity against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans Infection in Mice
Lin Lin,Ashraf S. Ibrahim,Xin Xu,Joshua M. Farber,Valentina Avanesian,Beverlie Baquir,Yue Fu,Samuel W. French,Samuel W. French,John E. Edwards,Brad Spellberg,Brad Spellberg +11 more
TL;DR: RAls3p-N vaccination induced a Th1/Th17 response, resulting in recruitment and activation of phagocytes at sites of infection, and more effective clearance of S. aureus and C. albicans from tissues, suggesting vaccine-mediated adaptive immunity can protect against both infections by targeting microbes for destruction by innate effectors.
Journal ArticleDOI
From Mallory to Mallory-Denk bodies: What, how and why?
Kurt Zatloukal,Samuel W. French,Cornelia Stumptner,Pavel Strnad,Pavel Strnad,Masaru Harada,Diana M. Toivola,Diana M. Toivola,Monique Cadrin,M. Bishr Omary,M. Bishr Omary +10 more
TL;DR: Although it remains unclear whether MDBs serve a bystander, protective or injury promoting function, they do serve an important role as histological and potential progression markers in several liver diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
PNPASE Regulates RNA Import into Mitochondria
Geng Wang,Hsiao-Wen Chen,Yavuz Oktay,Jin Zhang,Eric L. Allen,Geoffrey M. Smith,Kelly C. Fan,Jason S. Hong,Samuel W. French,J. Michael McCaffery,Robert N. Lightowlers,Herbert C. Morse,Carla M. Koehler,Michael A. Teitell +13 more
TL;DR: PNPASE RNA processing and import activities were separable and a mitochondrial RNA targeting signal was isolated that enabled RNA import in a PNPASE-dependent manner, and these data strongly support an unanticipated role for P NPASE in mediating the translocation of RNAs into mitochondria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beef fat prevents alcoholic liver disease in the rat.
TL;DR: It is postulate that linoleic acid facilitates development of ALD and provides an explanation for the previous epidemiological observations.
