Journal ArticleDOI
Bone loss is correlated to the severity of growth hormone deficiency in adult patients with hypopituitarism.
Annamaria Colao,Carolina Di Somma,Rosario Pivonello,Sandro Loche,Gianluca Aimaretti,G. Cerbone,G. Cerbone,Antongiulio Faggiano,G. Corneli,Ezio Ghigo,Gaetano Lombardi +10 more
TL;DR: To investigate whether the severity of GHD was correlated with the degree of bone mass and turnover impairment, BMD at the lumbar spine and femoral neck was evaluated and circulating IGF-I, IGF-binding protein-3, and osteocalcin levels, and urinary cross-linked N-telopeptides of type I collagen (Ntx) levels were evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduced growth hormone response to growth hormone‐releasing hormone in children with simple obesity: evidence for somatomedin‐c mediated inhibition
Sandro Loche,Marco Cappa,P. Borrelli,A. Faedda,Antonino Crinò,Silvano G. Cella,Roberto Corda,E. E. Müller,Carlo Pintor +8 more
TL;DR: Plasma somatomedin‐C (SM‐C) levels were significantly higher in obese than control children, and were negatively correlated with the peak plasma GH levels, implying that it may be due to the feedback inhibition operated by the elevated plasma levels of SM‐C.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of adrenal function in patients with growth hormone deficiency and hypothalamic–pituitary disorders: comparison between insulin-induced hypoglycemia, low-dose ACTH, standard ACTH and CRH stimulation tests
M. Maghnie,E Uga,F Temporini,N Di Iorgi,Andrea Secco,Carmine Tinelli,A Papalia,Casini,Sandro Loche +8 more
TL;DR: None of these tests can be considered completely reliable for establishing or excluding the presence of secondary or tertiary adrenal insufficiency and clinical judgment remains one of the most important issues for deciding which patients need assessment or re-assessment of adrenal function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Naloxone-induced luteinizing hormone secretion in normal, precocious, and delayed puberty.
Felice Petraglia,Sergio Bernasconi,Lorenzo Iughetti,Sandro Loche,Franca Romanini,Fabio Facchinetti,C. Marcellini,Andrea R. Genazzani +7 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the LH response to NLX occurs only at the most advanced stages of pubertal maturation when normal or precocious and is absent in early puberty or in children with Pubertal disturbances, and suggest that opioid regulation of LH secretion in humans changes during puberty, reaching an adult-like functional state with maturation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epinephrine mediates the growth hormone-releasing effect of galanin in infant rats.
Silvano G. Cella,Vittorio Locatelli,V. De Gennaro,G. P. Bondiolotti,Carlo Pintor,Sandro Loche,M. Provezza,Eugenio E. Müller +7 more
TL;DR: GAL is a potent GH secretagogue in the infant rat and the action of GAL is not exerted directly on GHRF- or somatostatin-secreting structures, but requires the intervention of catecholaminergic neurons.
