Journal ArticleDOI
Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase: Update and Analysis of New Mutations around the World
Saúl Gómez-Manzo,Jaime Marcial-Quino,America Vanoye-Carlo,Hugo Serrano-Posada,Daniel Ortega-Cuellar,Abigail González-Valdez,Rosa Angélica Castillo-Rodríguez,Beatriz Hernández-Ochoa,Edgar Sierra-Palacios,Eduardo Rodríguez-Bustamante,Roberto Arreguín-Espinosa +10 more
TL;DR: The state of the art in G6PD deficiency is reviewed, describing 217 mutations in the g6pd gene and it is found that class I mutations have the most deleterious effects on the structure and stability of the protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Stability of G6PD Is Affected by Mutations with Different Clinical Phenotypes
Saúl Gómez-Manzo,Jessica Terrón-Hernández,Ignacio de la Mora-de la Mora,Abigail González-Valdez,Jaime Marcial-Quino,Itzhel García-Torres,America Vanoye-Carlo,Gabriel López-Velázquez,Gloria Hernández-Alcántara,Jesús Oria-Hernández,Horacio Reyes-Vivas,Sergio Enríquez-Flores +11 more
TL;DR: A successful over-expression method is developed that constitutes an easier and more precise method for obtaining and characterizing these enzymes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determining the molecular mechanism of inactivation by chemical modification of triosephosphate isomerase from the human parasite Giardia lamblia: a study for antiparasitic drug design.
Sergio Enríquez-Flores,Adela Rodríguez-Romero,Gloria Hernández-Alcántara,Jesús Oria-Hernández,Pedro Gutiérrez-Castrellón,Gerardo Pérez-Hernández,Ignacio de la Mora-de la Mora,Adriana Castillo-Villanueva,Itzhel García-Torres,Sara T. Méndez,Saúl Gómez-Manzo,Angélica Torres-Arroyo,Gabriel López-Velázquez,Horacio Reyes-Vivas +13 more
TL;DR: Structural and functional studies were performed and it was found that the Cys222 derivatization is responsible for GlTIM inactivation, which indicates that the surrounding environment of each Cys residue has unique structural differences that can be exploited to design specific antigiardiasic drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular and Catalytic Properties of the Aldehyde Dehydrogenase of Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus, a Quinoheme Protein Containing Pyrroloquinoline Quinone, Cytochrome b, and Cytochrome c
Saúl Gómez-Manzo,J. L. Chavez-Pacheco,Martha Contreras-Zentella,Martha E. Sosa-Torres,Roberto Arreguín-Espinosa,M. Pérez de la Mora,Jorge Membrillo-Hernández,J. E. Escamilla +7 more
TL;DR: Reversed-phase high-pressure liquid chromatography and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy led to the unequivocal presence of a pyrroloquinoline quinone prosthetic group associated with an ALDH complex from acetic acid bacteria, suggesting an intramolecular redox sequence that delivers electrons to the membrane ubiquinone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proton pump inhibitors drastically modify triosephosphate isomerase from Giardia lamblia at functional and structural levels, providing molecular leads in the design of new antigiardiasic drugs.
Itzhel García-Torres,Ignacio de la Mora-de la Mora,Jaime Marcial-Quino,Saúl Gómez-Manzo,America Vanoye-Carlo,Gabriel Navarrete-Vázquez,Blanca Colín-Lozano,Pedro Gutiérrez-Castrellón,Edgar Sierra-Palacios,Gabriel López-Velázquez,Sergio Enríquez-Flores +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that rabeprazole is the most potent PPI for GlTIM inactivation and that all PPIs tested have substantial abilities to alter GITIM at the structural level, causing serious damage.
