Hardness and plastic deformation in a bulk metallic glass

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental investigation into the Vickers hardness and associated plastic deformation in as-cast and annealed Pd42Ni40P18 bulk metallic glass was conducted, and the deformation morphology underneath the indenter and its variation with annealing time was examined by employing the bonded interface technique.
Journal ArticleDOI

Friction Stir Lap Welding of Magnesium Alloy to Steel: A Preliminary Investigation

TL;DR: In this paper, the feasibility of joining magnesium alloy AZ31 sheet to galvanized steel sheet in a lap configuration using friction stir welding (FSW) was evaluated using two different automotive sheet steels: a 0.8 mm thick, electrogalvanized (EG) mild steel, and a 1.5 mm thick hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) steel.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Friction Stir Processing on Fatigue Behavior of an Investment Cast Al-7Si-0.6 Mg Alloy

TL;DR: In this article, a five times improvement in fatigue life of an investment cast Al-7Si-0.6mg hypoeutectic alloy was reported due to the closure of casting porosities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Subsurface deformation during Vickers indentation of bulk metallic glasses

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors employed the bonded interface technique to examine the nature of subsurface deformation during Vickers indentation in two kinds of bulk metallic glasses (BMGs), and found that both the BMGs have an average hardness value of $550 VHN with slightly higher hardness at low loads.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deformation morphology underneath the Vickers indent in a Zr-based bulk metallic glass

TL;DR: Hardness and plastic deformation during Vickers indentation in as-cast, annealed, and fully crystallized Zr57Cu27Al11Ni5 bulk metallic glass was examined in this article.
