Journal ArticleDOI

Human beta-defensins suppress human immunodeficiency virus infection: potential role in mucosal protection.

TL;DR: The data suggest that, besides a direct inactivation of HIV virions, hBD2 inhibits HIV replication in the intracellular environment, and it is speculated that β-defensins mediate a novel antiretroviral mechanism that contributes to prevention of oral HIV transmission in the oral cavity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alternatively activated macrophages; a double-edged sword in allergic asthma

TL;DR: The different functions of M2a macrophages (protective and pathogenic roles) in the pathogenesis of asthma are illustrated, including explanation of how different M 2a proteins and markers act during the pathogenic of allergic asthma.
Journal ArticleDOI

Is hepatitis E virus an emerging problem in industrialized countries

TL;DR: The molecular virology of HEV, mode of transmission in industrialized countries, and potential implications for different specific patient populations are discussed, and novel antiviral compounds are highly needed.
