TL;DR: Two new diastereoisomers of the pseudohexuronate methyl 2,3,4,5-tetrahydroxycyclohexane-1-carboxylate, having (1,3/2, 4, 5)-configurations (8) and (1 3,4/2.5)-configuration (16), have been synthesised from the readily available bromo-lactone (1) of the endo-adduct of furan and acrylic acid as discussed by the authors.
