TL;DR: In this paper, the known 1,2-O -isopropylidene-5- O-p -tolylsulfonyl-α- d -xylofuranose was converted into its 3- p -nitrobenzoate (13a ) and 3-methanesulfonate ( 13b ) by deacetonation with CF 3 CO 2 H, epoxide formation with sodium methoxide, and PCC-oxidation.

Inositol Derivatives. V. Selective Benzoylation of 1,2-O-Cyclohexylidene-myo-inositol and Preparation of New O-p-Tolylsulfonyl-myo-inositols

TL;DR: The reaction of l,2-O-cyclohexylidene-myo-inositol (1a) with 1.5 equiv. of benzoyl chloride below 0°C gave 3,O-benzoate (2a) predominantly in 40% yield, together with easily separable 3,6-di-O-, O-di O-, and 3,5-p-toluenesulfonates (3a) in 2.5% yield as discussed by the authors.
