Journal ArticleDOI
Defect-mediated polarization switching in ferroelectrics and related materials: from mesoscopic mechanisms to atomistic control.
Sergei V. Kalinin,Brian J. Rodriguez,Albina Y. Borisevich,Arthur P. Baddorf,Nina Balke,Hye Jung Chang,Long Qing Chen,Somnath Choudhury,Stephen Jesse,Peter Maksymovych,Maxim Nikiforov,Stephen J. Pennycook +11 more
TL;DR: Recent advances in understanding the defect-mediated switching mechanisms, enabled by recent advances in electron and scanning probe microscopy, are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Breaking the Time Barrier in Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy: Fast Free Force Reconstruction Using the G-Mode Platform.
TL;DR: Fast free force recovery (F3R) overcomes the widely viewed temporal bottleneck in AFM, that is, the mechanical bandwidth of the cantilever, enabling time-resolved imaging at sub-bandwidth speeds and is demonstrated for exploration of ion migration in organometallic halide perovskite materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surface potential at surface-interface junctions in SrTiO 3 bicrystals
TL;DR: In this paper, an analytical approach to the quantification of electrostatic force microscopy and scanning surface potential microscopy images of systems with electric potential inhomogeneity has been developed in order to determine the interface potential in a donor-doped \ensuremath{Sigma}5 ${\mathrm{SrTiO}}_{3}$ grain boundary.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thermodynamics of nanodomain formation and breakdown in scanning probe microscopy: Landau-Ginzburg-Devonshire approach
Anna N. Morozovska,Eugene A. Eliseev,Yulan Li,Sergei V. Svechnikov,Peter Maksymovych,Vladimir Ya. Shur,Venkatraman Gopalan,Long Qing Chen,Sergei V. Kalinin +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the thermodynamics of tip-induced nanodomain formation in scanning probe microscopy of ferroelectric films and crystals using the analytical Landau-Ginzburg-Devonshire approach and phase-field modeling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct mapping of ionic transport in a Si anode on the nanoscale: time domain electrochemical strain spectroscopy study.
Stephen Jesse,Nina Balke,Eugene A. Eliseev,Alexander Tselev,Nancy J. Dudney,Anna N. Morozovska,Sergei V. Kalinin +6 more
TL;DR: The universal presence of concentration-strain coupling suggests that ESM and associated time and voltage spectroscopies can be applied to a broad range of electrochemical systems ranging from batteries to fuel cells.
