Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced laser-driven ion acceleration in the relativistic transparency regime.
A. Henig,A. Henig,Daniel Kiefer,Daniel Kiefer,K. Markey,Donald C. Gautier,Kirk Flippo,Samuel A. Letzring,Randall P. Johnson,T. Shimada,Lin Yin,Brian J. Albright,Kevin J. Bowers,Juan C. Fernández,Sergey Rykovanov,Hui-Chun Wu,Matthew Zepf,Daniel Jung,Daniel Jung,V.Kh. Liechtenstein,V.Kh. Liechtenstein,Jörg Schreiber,Jörg Schreiber,Jörg Schreiber,D. Habs,D. Habs,Bjorn Hegelich,Bjorn Hegelich +27 more
TL;DR: An unprecedented maximum energy of 185 MeV (15 MeV/u) for fully ionized carbon atoms is observed at the optimum thickness of 30 nm, leading to strong volumetric heating of the classically overdense electron population in the bulk of the target.
Journal ArticleDOI
Attosecond phase locking of harmonics emitted from laser-produced plasmas
Yutaka Nomura,Rainer Hörlein,Paraskevas Tzallas,Brendan Dromey,Sergey Rykovanov,Zsuzsanna Major,Jens Osterhoff,Stefan Karsch,Laszlo Veisz,Matthew Zepf,Dimitris Charalambidis,Dimitris Charalambidis,Ferenc Krausz,G. D. Tsakiris +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an experiment demonstrating the generation of subfemtosecond pulses of light through the interaction of laser light with a solid target underlines the potential of this approach to lead to a new generation of intense sources of attosecond pulse.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diffraction-limited performance and focusing of high harmonics from relativistic plasmas
Brendan Dromey,D. Adams,Rainer Hörlein,Yutaka Nomura,Sergey Rykovanov,David Carroll,Peta Foster,Satyabrata Kar,K. Markey,Paul McKenna,David Neely,Michael Geissler,G. D. Tsakiris,Matthew Zepf +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the occurrence of surface smoothing on the scale of the wavelength of the generated harmonics, and plasma denting of the irradiated surface, enables the production of high-quality X-ray beams focused down to the diffraction limit.
Journal ArticleDOI
“Zhores” — Petaflops supercomputer for data-driven modeling, machine learning and artificial intelligence installed in Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology
Journal ArticleDOI
Coherent synchrotron emission from electron nanobunches formed in relativistic laser-plasma interactions
Brendan Dromey,Sergey Rykovanov,Sergey Rykovanov,Mark Yeung,Rainer Hörlein,Daniel Jung,Donald C. Gautier,Thomas Dzelzainis,Daniel Kiefer,S. Palaniyppan,R. C. Shah,Jörg Schreiber,Hartmut Ruhl,Juan C. Fernández,Ciaran Lewis,Matthew Zepf,Matthew Zepf,Bjorn Hegelich +17 more
TL;DR: Theoretical studies have predicted an alternative regime in which short-wavelength light is generated by dense electron nanobunches that form at the plasma-vacuum boundary as discussed by the authors.
