Red blood cell-hitchhiking boosts delivery of nanocarriers to chosen organs by orders of magnitude
Jacob S. Brenner,Daniel C. Pan,Jacob W. Myerson,Oscar A. Marcos-Contreras,Carlos H. Villa,Priyal Patel,Hugh Hekierski,Shampa Chatterjee,Jian-Qin Tao,Hamideh Parhiz,Kartik Bhamidipati,Thomas G. Uhler,Elizabeth D. Hood,Raisa Yu Kiseleva,Vladimir S. Shuvaev,Tea Shuvaeva,Makan Khoshnejad,Ian Johnston,Jason V. Gregory,Joerg Lahann,Tao Wang,Edward Cantu,William M. Armstead,Samir Mitragotri,Vladimir R. Muzykantov +24 more
TL;DR: Red blood cell-hitchhiking (RH) as discussed by the authors is a universal solution for drug delivery by nanocarriers (NCs) in which NCs adsorbed onto the RBCs transfer from RBC to the first organ downstream of the intravascular injection.
Book ChapterDOI
Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Disease
TL;DR: The interrelation between oxidative stress and inflammation is discussed in the present chapter with a view to highlight the role of “ROS-induced-inflammation” pathways in the progression of several pathologies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary curcumin increases antioxidant defenses in lung, ameliorates radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis, and improves survival in mice.
James C. Lee,Paul Kinniry,Evguenia Arguiri,Matthew Serota,Stathis Kanterakis,Shampa Chatterjee,Charalambos C. Solomides,Prashanthi Javvadi,Constantinos Koumenis,Keith A. Cengel,Melpo Christofidou-Solomidou +10 more
TL;DR: Dietary curcumin ameliorates radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis and increases mouse survival while not impairing tumor cell killing by radiation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Membrane depolarization is the trigger for PI3K/Akt activation and leads to the generation of ROS
Shampa Chatterjee,Elizabeth Anne Browning,Nankang Hong,Kristine Debolt,Elena M. Sorokina,Weidong Liu,Morris J. Birnbaum,Aron B. Fisher +7 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that PI3K/Akt and PKC serve as mediators between endothelial cell membrane depolarization and NOX2 assembly, and Akt1 phosphorylation follows cell membranes depolarized and precedes the activation of NOX 2.
Journal ArticleDOI
Peroxiredoxin 6 phosphorylation and subsequent phospholipase A2 activity are required for agonist-mediated activation of NADPH oxidase in mouse pulmonary microvascular endothelium and alveolar macrophages
Shampa Chatterjee,Sheldon I. Feinstein,Chandra Dodia,Elena M. Sorokina,Yu-Chin Lien,Su Nguyen,Kris DeBolt,David W. Speicher,Aron B. Fisher +8 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that Prdx6 is required for agonist-induced NOX2 activation in pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVEC) and that the effect requires the PLA2 activity of Prdx8, and that MAPK activation leads to Prx6 phosphorylation and translocation to the cell membrane.
