Journal ArticleDOI
Anhedonia or anergia? Effects of haloperidol and nucleus accumbens dopamine depletion on instrumental response selection in a T-maze cost/benefit procedure.
TL;DR: Two experiments were conducted to study the role of dopamine in the performance of a novel cost/benefit procedure and found that nucleus accumbens dopamine depletions produced by 6-hydroxydopamine decreased the number of selections of the arm with high reinforcement density when the barrier was present.
Journal ArticleDOI
Helping Babies Breathe: global neonatal resuscitation program development and formative educational evaluation.
Nalini Singhal,Jocelyn Lockyer,Herta Fidler,William J. Keenan,George A. Little,Sherri Bucher,Maqbool Qadir,Susan Niermeyer +7 more
TL;DR: Participants in a program for neonatal resuscitation in resource-limited settings demonstrated high satisfaction, high self-efficacy and gains in knowledge and skills, but mastery of ventilation skills and integration of skills into case management may not be achievable in the classroom setting without additional practice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) training: What happens to knowledge and skills over time?
Akash Bang,Archana B. Patel,Roopa M. Bellad,Peter Gisore,Shivaprasad S. Goudar,Fabian Esamai,Edward A. Liechty,Sreelatha Meleth,Norman Goco,Susan Niermeyer,William J. Keenan,Beena D. Dhaded,Manisha Bhandankar,Elizabeth M. McClure,Waldemar A. Carlo,Linda L. Wright,Linda L. Wright,Patricia L. Hibberd +27 more
TL;DR: HBB training significantly improved neonatal resuscitation knowledge and skills, but skills declined more than knowledge over time, and Ongoing skills practice and monitoring, more frequent retesting, and refresher trainings are needed to maintain neonatal CPR skills.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rates and determinants of early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breast feeding at 42 days postnatal in six low and middle-income countries: A prospective cohort study
Archana Patel,Sherri Bucher,Yamini Pusdekar,Fabian Esamai,Nancy F. Krebs,Shivaprasad S. Goudar,Elwyn Chomba,Ana Garces,Omrana Pasha,Sarah Saleem,Bhalachandra S. Kodkany,Edward A. Liechty,Bhala Kodkany,Richard J. Derman,Waldemar A. Carlo,K. Michael Hambidge,Robert L. Goldenberg,Fernando Althabe,Mabel Berrueta,Janet Moore,Elizabeth M. McClure,Marion Koso-Thomas,Patricia L. Hibberd +22 more
TL;DR: Rates of both early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding at 42 days post-partum were high, except in Pakistan, and factors associated with these key breastfeeding indicators should assist with more effective strategies to scale-up these crucial public health interventions.
Journal ArticleDOI
A pre-post study of a multi-country scale up of resuscitation training of facility birth attendants: does Helping Babies Breathe training save lives?
Roopa M. Bellad,Akash Bang,Waldemar A. Carlo,Elizabeth M. McClure,Sreelatha Meleth,Norman Goco,Shivaprasad S. Goudar,Richard J. Derman,Patricia L. Hibberd,Archana Patel,Fabian Esamai,Sherri Bucher,Peter Gisore,Linda L. Wright +13 more
TL;DR: Rapid scale up of H BB training of facility birth attendants in three diverse sites in India and Kenya was not associated with consistent improvements in mortality among all neonates ≥1500 g; however, differential improvements in <2500 g survival in Belgaum suggest the need for careful implementation of HBB training with attention to the target population, data collection, and ongoing quality monitoring activities.
