Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of a new genotype of African swine fever virus in domestic pigs from Ethiopia.
Jenna Elizabeth Achenbach,Carmina Gallardo,Elvira Nieto-Pelegrín,Belén Rivera-Arroyo,T. Degefa-Negi,Marisa Arias,Shiferaw Jenberie,D. D. Mulisa,Daniel Gizaw,Esayas Gelaye,Esayas Gelaye,Tesfaye Rufael Chibssa,A. Belaye,Angelika Loitsch,M. Forsa,Martha Yami,Adama Diallo,Alejandro Soler,Charles Euloge Lamien,José Manuel Sánchez-Vizcaíno +19 more
TL;DR: The analysis of Ethiopian ASFVs partial p72 gene sequence showed the identification of a new genotype, genotype XXIII, that shares a common ancestor with genotypes IX and X, which comprise isolates circulating in Eastern African countries and the Republic of Congo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Capripox disease in Ethiopia: Genetic differences between field isolates and vaccine strain, and implications for vaccination failure.
Esayas Gelaye,Alebachew Belay,Gelagay Ayelet,Shiferaw Jenberie,Martha Yami,Angelika Loitsch,Eeva S.M. Tuppurainen,Reingard Grabherr,Adama Diallo,Charles Euloge Lamien +9 more
TL;DR: Capripox is shown to be highly significant in Ethiopia due to low performance of the local vaccine and insufficient vaccination coverage, so the development of new, more efficient vaccine strains, a GTPV strain for small ruminants and a LSDV for cattle, is needed to contribute to better control of CaPVs in Ethiopia.
Journal ArticleDOI
An international collaborative study to determine the prevalence of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia by monoclonal antibody-based cELISA.
Armelle Peyraud,Armelle Peyraud,François Poumarat,François Poumarat,Florence Tardy,Florence Tardy,Lucia Manso-Silvan,Lucia Manso-Silvan,Karomatullo Hamroev,Tillo Tilloev,Mullojon Amirbekov,Karim Tounkara,Charles Bodjo,Hezron Wesonga,Isabel Nkando,Shiferaw Jenberie,Martha Yami,Eric Cardinale,Deodass Meenowa,Mahmad Reshad Jaumally,Tahir Yaqub,Muhammad Zubair Shabbir,Nadia Mukhtar,Mohibullah Halimi,Ghulam Mohammad Ziay,Willy Schauwers,Hafizullah Noori,Ali Madad Rajabi,Stéphane Ostrowski,François Thiaucourt,François Thiaucourt +30 more
TL;DR: A new competitive ELISA kit for CCPP, based on a previous blocking ELISA, was formatted and used to evaluate the prevalence of CCPP in some regions of Kenya, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Tajikistan and Pakistan in an international collaborative study and retained the high specificity of the original kit.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular characterization of orf virus from sheep and goats in Ethiopia, 2008–2013
Esayas Gelaye,Esayas Gelaye,Esayas Gelaye,Jenna Elizabeth Achenbach,Shiferaw Jenberie,Gelagay Ayelet,Alebachew Belay,Martha Yami,Angelika Loitsch,Reingard Grabherr,Adama Diallo,Charles Euloge Lamien +11 more
TL;DR: The phylogenetic study and the comparative analysis of the deduced amino acid profile suggests that there were two main clusters of ORFV isolates which were responsible for the investigated outbreaks of orf disease in sheep and goats.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic characterisation of infectious bursal disease virus isolates in Ethiopia.
Shiferaw Jenberie,Stacey E. Lynch,Fekadu Kebede,Robert M. Christley,Esayas Gelaye,Haileleul Negussie,Kassahun Asmare,Kassahun Asmare,Gelagay Ayelet +8 more
TL;DR: Ethiopian vvIBDVs are clustered phylogenetically with the African IBDV genetic lineage, independent of the Asian/European genetic.
