Oxygen redox chemistry without excess alkali-metal ions in Na2/3[Mg0.28Mn0.72]O2
Urmimala Maitra,Robert A. House,James W. Somerville,Nuria Tapia-Ruiz,Juan G. Lozano,Niccoló Guerrini,Rong Hao,Kun Luo,Liyu Jin,Miguel A. Pérez-Osorio,Felix Massel,David M. Pickup,Silvia Ramos,Xingye Lu,Daniel McNally,Alan V. Chadwick,Feliciano Giustino,Thorsten Schmitt,Laurent Duda,Matthew R. Roberts,Peter G. Bruce +20 more
TL;DR: Na2/3[Mg0.28Mn0.72]O2 exhibits an excess capacity and it is shown that this is caused by oxygen redox, even though Mg2+ resides in the TM layers rather than alkali-metal (AM) ions, which demonstrates that excess AM ions are not required to activate oxygenRedox.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anion Redox Chemistry in the Cobalt Free 3d Transition Metal Oxide Intercalation Electrode Li[Li0.2Ni0.2Mn0.6]O2.
Kun Luo,Matthew R. Roberts,Niccoló Guerrini,Nuria Tapia-Ruiz,Rong Hao,Felix Massel,David M. Pickup,Silvia Ramos,Yi-Sheng Liu,Jinghua Guo,Alan V. Chadwick,Laurent Duda,Peter G. Bruce +12 more
TL;DR: The general features of O redox are described with discussion about the role of comparatively ionic (less covalent) 3d metal-oxygen interaction on anion redox in lithium rich cathode materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
What Triggers Oxygen Loss in Oxygen Redox Cathode Materials
Robert A. House,Urmimala Maitra,Liyu Jin,Juan G. Lozano,James W. Somerville,Nicholas H. Rees,Andrew J. Naylor,Laurent Duda,Felix Massel,Alan V. Chadwick,Silvia Ramos,David M. Pickup,Daniel McNally,Xingye Lu,Thorsten Schmitt,Matthew R. Roberts,Peter G. Bruce +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that it is possible to increase the charge capacity of transition metal (TM) oxide cathodes in alkali-ion batteries by invoking redox reactions on the oxygen.
Journal ArticleDOI
B18: A core XAS spectroscopy beamline for Diamond
Andrew J. Dent,Giannantonio Cibin,Silvia Ramos,Andrew D. Smith,Stewart Scott,L. Varandas,M.R. Pearson,N.A. Krumpa,C.P. Jones,P.E. Robbins +9 more
TL;DR: The B18 as discussed by the authors is a general purpose XAS beamline on diamond, with a monochromator designed to carry out both conventional and QEXAFS measurements, where the low and high energy optic branches will run in parallel and the appropriate branch for a given experiment will be selected by changing the position of the slits, instead of by moving the optical elements.
Journal ArticleDOI
X-ray and neutron scattering studies of the hydration structure of alkali ions in concentrated aqueous solutions.
TL;DR: It will be shown how the 'difference' methods of neutron diffraction with isotopic substitution (NDIS) and anomalous X-ray diffraction (AXD) can be used to obtain direct information regarding the radial pair distribution functions of many cations and anions in solution.
