Journal ArticleDOI
Absence of fractionation of mercury isotopes during trophic transfer of methylmercury to freshwater fish in captivity.
Sae Yun Kwon,Joel D. Blum,Michael J. Carvan,Niladri Basu,Jessica A. Head,Charles P. Madenjian,Solomon R. David +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the stable Hg isotope ratios in fish can be used to trace environmental sources of Hg in aquatic ecosystems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene trees, species trees, and morphology converge on a similar phylogeny of living gars (Actinopterygii: Holostei: Lepisosteidae), an ancient clade of ray-finned fishes.
TL;DR: The completely resolved phylogeny inferred from the molecular data set with strong Bayesian posterior support at all nodes provided insights into the potential for introgressive hybridization and patterns of allopatric speciation in the evolutionary history of living gars, as well as a solid foundation for future examinations of functional diversification and evolutionary stasis in a "living fossil" lineage.
Journal ArticleDOI
The bowfin genome illuminates the developmental evolution of ray-finned fishes.
Andrew W. Thompson,M. Brent Hawkins,Elise Parey,Dustin J. Wcisel,Tatsuya Ota,Kazuhiko Kawasaki,Emily Funk,Emily Funk,Mauricio Losilla,Olivia E Fitch,Qiaowei Pan,Romain Feron,Romain Feron,Alexandra Louis,Jérôme Montfort,Marine Milhes,Brett Racicot,Kevin L. Childs,Quenton C. Fontenot,Allyse M. Ferrara,Solomon R. David,Amy R. McCune,Alex Dornburg,Jeffrey A. Yoder,Yann Guiguen,Hugues Roest Crollius,Camille Berthelot,Matthew P. Harris,Matthew P. Harris,Ingo Braasch +29 more
TL;DR: In this article, a chromosome-level genome assembly for the bowfin (Amia calva) is presented, which enables gene-order analyses, settling long-debated neopterygian phylogenetic relationships.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pattern and scale in latitude–production relationships for freshwater fishes
TL;DR: Latitude has contrasting effects on fish production at different spatial scales and levels of biological organization, and while freshwater fish communities are somewhat more productive and diverse at lower latitudes, species production in northern populations is often surprisingly high.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantifying the contribution of zoos and aquariums to peer-reviewed scientific research
Tse-Lynn Loh,Eric Larson,Eric Larson,Solomon R. David,Solomon R. David,Lesley S. de Souza,Rebecca Gericke,Mary Gryzbek,Andrew S. Kough,Philip W. Willink,Charles R. Knapp +10 more
TL;DR: For example, conservation research is a key accreditation criterion of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) as mentioned in this paper, and conservation research at zoos and aquariums is an important aspect of biodiversity conservation and research.
