Tijana Janjic,Niels Bormann,Marc Bocquet,James A. Carton,Stephen E. Cohn,Sarah L. Dance,Svetlana N. Losa,Nancy Nichols,Roland Potthast,Roland Potthast,Joanne A. Waller,Peter Weston +11 more
TL;DR: This paper is an attempt to consolidate the terminology that has been used in the earth sciences literature and was suggested at a European Space Agency workshop held in Reading in April 2014.
Journal ArticleDOI
Obtaining Phytoplankton Diversity from Ocean Color: A Scientific Roadmap for Future Development.
Astrid Bracher,Astrid Bracher,Heather A. Bouman,Robert J. W. Brewin,Annick Bricaud,Annick Bricaud,Vanda Brotas,Áurea Maria Ciotti,Lesley Clementson,Emmanuel Devred,Annalisa Di Cicco,Stephanie Dutkiewicz,Nick J. Hardman-Mountford,Anna E. TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify user needs, summarizes the current state of the art, and pinpoints major gaps in long-term objectives to deliver space-derived phytoplankton diversity data that meets the user requirements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Data Assimilation for marine monitoring and prediction : The MERCATOR operational assimilation systems and the MERSEA developments
Pierre Brasseur,P. Bahurel,Laurent Bertino,Florence Birol,Jean-Michel Brankart,Nicolas Ferry,Svetlana N. Losa,Elisabeth Remy,Jens Schröter,Sergey Skachko,Charles-Emmanuel Testut,Benoît Tranchant,P. van Leeuwen,Jacques Verron +13 more
TL;DR: An overview of the developments conducted in MERSEA with the SEEK filter, the Ensemble Kalman filter and the sequential importance re-sampling filter is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assimilating SMOS sea ice thickness into a coupled ice-ocean model using a local SEIK filter
Qinghua Yang,Svetlana N. Losa,Martin Losch,Xiangshan Tian-Kunze,Lars Nerger,Jiping Liu,Lars Kaleschke,Zhanghai Zhang +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of assimilating sea ice thickness data derived from ESA's Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite together with Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) sea ice concentration data of the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) in a coupled sea ice-ocean model is examined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Weak constraint parameter estimation for a simple ocean ecosystem model: what can we learn about the model and data?
TL;DR: In this article, weak constraint parameter estimation is applied to tune a 0-D 4-component model for the ecosystem of the upper mixed layer in the North Atlantic, where the model is constrained by the monthly mean Nimbus-7 chlorophyll data.
