4,8,12,16-Tetra-tert-butyl-s-indaceno[1,2,3-cd:5,6,7-c‘d‘]diphenalene: A Four-Stage Amphoteric Redox System

TL;DR: In this paper, a four-stage amphoteric redox hydrocarbon (5) containing two phenalenyl units was prepared and four reversible redox waves with a small numerical sum of first oxidation (E1ox) and reduction potentials were successfully generated from the neutral 5 and were characterized by NMR, ESR, and UV−vis−near-IR spectroscopies.
Journal ArticleDOI

An Extremely Simple Dibenzopentalene Synthesis from 2‐Bromo‐1‐ethynylbenzenes Using Nickel(0) Complexes: Construction of Its Derivatives with Various Functionalities

TL;DR: An extremely simple dibenzopentalene synthesis from readily available 2-bromo-1-ethynylbenzenes using a nickel(0) complex is described and the cyclic voltammograms of these compounds reveal highly amphoteric redox properties.
Journal ArticleDOI

Aromaticity and π-bond covalency: prominent intermolecular covalent bonding interaction of a Kekulé hydrocarbon with very significant singlet biradical character

TL;DR: An anthracene-linked bisphenalenyl Kekulé molecule with very significant singlet biradical character has shown a prominent covalent bonding interaction between molecules in a molecular aggregate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Theoretical study of third-order nonlinear optical properties in square nanographenes with open-shell singlet ground states

TL;DR: Using spin-unrestricted density functional theory methods, the second hyperpolarizabilities of square nanographenes presenting different diradical characters were investigated from the viewpoint of open-shell singlet nonlinear optical systems as discussed by the authors.
