Journal ArticleDOI
Thermal stability and topological protection of skyrmions in nanotracks
David Cortés-Ortuño,Weiwei Wang,Weiwei Wang,Marijan Beg,Ryan Pepper,Marc-Antonio Bisotti,Rebecca Carey,Mark Vousden,Thomas Kluyver,Ondrej Hovorka,Hans Fangohr,Hans Fangohr +11 more
TL;DR: This work study paths in the energy landscape via which the transition between the skyrmion and the uniform state can occur in interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya finite-sized systems and finds three mechanisms the system can take.
Journal ArticleDOI
A global database of C4 photosynthesis in grasses
Colin P. Osborne,Anna Salomaa,Anna Salomaa,Thomas Kluyver,Vernon Visser,Vernon Visser,Elizabeth A. Kellogg,Osvaldo Morrone,Maria S. Vorontsova,W. Derek Clayton,David A. Simpson +10 more
TL;DR: C4 photosynthesis is an excellent model for investigating complex trait evolution, because of the broad knowledge base describing its biochemical basis, evolutionary history, and ecological interactions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Megahertz data collection from protein microcrystals at an X-ray free-electron laser

Bruce Doak,Robert L. Shoeman,Lutz Foucar,Jacques-Philippe Colletier,Adrian P. Mancuso,Thomas R. M. Barends,Claudiu A. Stan,Ilme Schlichting +57 more
TL;DR: The European X-ray free-electron laser (EuXFEL) in Hamburg is the first megahertz (MHz) repetition rate XFEL and it is demonstrated that damage-free high quality data can be collected at a MHz repetition rate.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors study paths in the energy landscape via which the transition between the skyrmion and the uniform state can occur in interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya finite-sized systems.

Did greater burial depth increase the seed size of domesticated legumes
TL;DR: The hypothesis that human cultivation buried seeds deeper than natural dispersal, exerting unconscious selection favouring larger seeds with greater reserves, was tested but the results do not support the hypothesis that burial under cultivation was a general selection mechanism for increased seed mass during the domestication of grain legumes.
