Chase Studies of Particulate Emissions from in-use New York City Vehicles
Manjula R. Canagaratna,John T. Jayne,David A. Ghertner,Scott C. Herndon,Q. Shi,Jose L. Jimenez,Philip J. Silva,Paul I. Williams,Thomas Lanni,Frank Drewnick,Kenneth L. Demerjian,Charles E. Kolb,Douglas R. Worsnop +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used an Aerodyne aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS) to provide size-resolved and chemically resolved characterization of the nonrefractory portion of the emitted PM; refractory materials such as elemental carbon were not measured in this study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation and Comparison of Portable Emissions Measurement Systems and Federal Reference Methods for Emissions from a Back-Up Generator and a Diesel Truck Operated on a Chassis Dynamometer
Thomas D. Durbin,Kent C. Johnson,David R. Cocker,J. Wayne Miller,Hector Maldonado,Atul Shah,Carl D. Ensfield,Christopher S. Weaver,Mike Akard,Neal Harvey,James Symon,Thomas Lanni,William D. Bachalo,Greg Payne,Greg Smallwood,Manfred Linke +15 more
TL;DR: In this study, four commercial PEMS were compared with a Federal Reference Method for measuring emissions from a back-up generator over steady-state loads and a diesel truck on transient and steady- state chassis dynamometer tests.
Journal ArticleDOI
Particulate Emissions from in-use Commercial Aircraft
Scott C. Herndon,Timothy B. Onasch,Brian P. Frank,Linsey C. Marr,John T. Jayne,Manjula R. Canagaratna,Jillian Grygas,Thomas Lanni,Bruce E. Anderson,Doug Worsnop,Richard C. Miake-Lye +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the number, magnitude, and composition of the particle emissions between idle and take-off at two different airports using a novel approach, and found that the number based emission indices (EI n ) vary by an order of magnitude for takeoff plumes from different aircraft.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unregulated Emissions from a Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine with Various Fuels and Emission Control Systems
TL;DR: The water emulsion PuriNO(x) fuel exhibited higher BTEX, carbonyls and PAHs emissions compared to other ultralow sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuels tested in this study while n-PAH emissions were comparable to that from other ULSD fuels.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Performance and Durability Evaluation of Continuously Regenerating Particulate Filters on Diesel Powered Urban Buses at NY City Transit
Sougato Chatterjee,Ray Conway,Thomas Lanni,Brian P. Frank,Shida Tang,Deborah Rosenblatt,Christopher Bush,Dana Lowell,James Evans,Robert McLean,Steven J. Levy +10 more
TL;DR: The Clean Diesel Demonstration Program was initiated by NY City Transit under the supervision of NY State DEC and with active participation from several industrial partners as mentioned in this paper, where several NY City transit buses with DDC Series 50 engines have been equipped with continuously regenerating diesel particulate filter system and are operating with ultra low sulfur diesel.
