Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer disease and related disorders. Consensus statement of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, the Alzheimer's Association, and the American Geriatrics Society.
Gary W. Small,Peter V. Rabins,Patricia P. Barry,Neil Buckholtz,Steven T. DeKosky,Steven H. Ferris,Sanford I. Finkel,Lisa P. Gwyther,Zaven S. Khachaturian,Barry D. Lebowitz,Thomas McRae,John C. Morris,Frances Oakley,Lon S. Schneider,Joel E. Streim,Trey Sunderland,Linda A. Teri,Larry E. Tune +17 more
TL;DR: A consensus conference on the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer disease and related disorders was organized by the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, the Alzheimer's Association, and the American Geriatrics Society on January 4 and 5, 1997, and reached consensus.
Journal Article
The radiologic prediction of Alzheimer disease: the atrophic hippocampal formation.
M. J. de Leon,James Golomb,Ajax E. George,Antonio Convit,Chaim Tarshish,Thomas McRae,S. De Santi,Gwenn S. Smith,Steven H. Ferris,Marilyn E. Noz +9 more
TL;DR: The findings strongly suggest that among persons with mild memory impairments, dilatation of the perihippocampal fissures is a useful radiologic marker for identifying the early features of Alzheimer disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Topography of Cross-sectional and Longitudinal Glucose Metabolic Deficits in Alzheimer's Disease: Pathophysiologic Implications
Gwenn S. Smith,Mony J. de Leon,Ajax E. George,Alan Kluger,Nora D. Volkow,Thomas McRae,James Golomb,Steven H. Ferris,Barry Reisberg,Joseph Ciaravino,Mary Ellen La Regina +10 more
TL;DR: The brain regions that show glucose metabolic deficits cross-sectionally over the stages of AD also show further deficits longitudinally within the same AD subjects, which is greater than would be expected from the degree of brain atrophy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cortisol Reduces Hippocampal Glucose Metabolism in Normal Elderly, but Not in Alzheimer’s Disease
M. J. de Leon,Thomas McRae,Henry Rusinek,Antonio Convit,S. De Santi,Chaim Tarshish,James Golomb,Nora D. Volkow,K. Daisley,N. Orentreich,Bruce S. McEwen +10 more
TL;DR: The interpretation is offered that glucocorticoid-mediated regulation of glucose transport is altered in AD, and this may underlie both the hippocampal insensitivity to cortisol and the failure in these patients to mount a peripheral glucose response.
Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized, placebo-controlled study of the efficacy and safety of sertraline in the treatment of the behavioral manifestations of Alzheimer's disease in outpatients treated with donepezil.
TL;DR: To examine the safety and efficacy of sertraline augmentation therapy in the treatment of behavioral manifestations of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in outpatients treated with donepezil.
