Anyone Monitoring? How Vanishing Local Newspapers Affect Firms’ Debt Structure
Daniel Bias,Thomas Schmid +1 more
TL;DR: This paper analyzed how information asymmetry affects the choice between public and private debt and showed that treated firms rely less on public debt if local monitoring slumps, rather, bonds are substituted by loans from banks, which possess a monitoring advantage.
Journal ArticleDOI
How Production Risk and Flexibility Affect Liquidity Management: Evidence from Electricity Generating Firms
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate the impact of product price risk on liquidity management in the electricity industry and find that higher volatility of electricity prices leads to an increase in cash holdings, and this effect is robust to instrumenting for price risk using weather volatility.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Microbeam radiation therapy at a laser-based compact synchrotron x-ray source
Karin Burger,K. Ilicic,Annique Hunger,Martin Dierolf,Benedikt Günther,Ernst Schmid,Dietrich W. M. Walsh,Theresa Urban,Stefan Bartzsch,Amira Radtke,Elena Eggl,Klaus Achterhold,Bernhard Gleich,Stephanie E. Combs,Michael Molls,Thomas Schmid,Franz Pfeiffer,Jan J. Wilkens +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the first successful in-vitro experiments at a laser-based Compact Light Source (CLS) were conducted, which is based on inverse Compton scattering of infrared laser photons, enhanced with a high-finesse bowtie-cavity, with relativistic electrons of 20-45 MeV.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Five-Year report on the conception and establishment of the MSc Radiation Biology at the Technical University of Munich.
Carmen Kessel,Michael J. Atkinson,Thomas Schmid,Klaus Rüdiger Trott,Jan J. Berberat,Stephanie E. Combs +18 more
TL;DR: The goal was to establish an internationally acknowledged program with diverse and heterogeneous student cohorts, who benefit from each other academically as well as culturally.

Price Risk, Production Flexibility, and Liquidity Management: Evidence from Electricity Generating Firms
TL;DR: In this article, the authors use data on hourly electricity prices in 41 markets to measure fluctuations in output prices and information on over 60,000 power plants to approximate firms' flexibilty to vary output quantities.
