Journal ArticleDOI
Anthocyans from fruits and vegetables--does bright colour signal cancer chemopreventive activity?
TL;DR: The currently available literature provides tantalising hints of the potential usefulness of anthocyans or anthocyan mixtures as cancer chemopreventive interventions, but further studies are necessary to help adjudge the propitiousness of their clinical development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pilot Study of Oral Silibinin, a Putative Chemopreventive Agent, in Colorectal Cancer Patients: Silibinin Levels in Plasma, Colorectum, and Liver and Their Pharmacodynamic Consequences
Carmen S L Hoh,David J. Boocock,Tim Marczylo,Rajinder Singh,David P. Berry,Ashley R. Dennison,David Hemingway,Andrew S. Miller,Kevin West,Stephanie A. Euden,Giuseppe Garcea,Peter B. Farmer,William P. Steward,Andreas J. Gescher +13 more
TL;DR: The high silibinin levels achieved in the human colorectal mucosa after consumption of safe silib inin doses support its further exploration as a potential human coloresctal cancer chemopreventive agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human and Methodological Sources of Variability in the Measurement of Urinary 8-Oxo-7,8-dihydro-2 '-deoxyguanosine
Lars Barregard,Peter Møller,Trine Henriksen,Vilas Mistry,Gudrun Koppen,Pavel Rossner,Radim J. Sram,Allan Weimann,Henrik E. Poulsen,Robert Nataf,Roberta Andreoli,Paola Manini,Tim Marczylo,Patricia M.W. Lam,Mark D. Evans,Hiroshi Kasai,Kazuaki Kawai,Yun-Shan Li,Kazuo Sakai,Rajinder Singh,Friederike Teichert,Peter B. Santella,Yali Su,Czarina Cortez,Susan Yeh,Ryszard Olinski,Steffen Loft,Marcus S. Cooke +43 more
TL;DR: This is the first comprehensive study of both human and methodological factors influencing 8-oxodG measurement, providing key information for future studies with this important biomarker.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pilot study of oral anthocyanins for colorectal cancer chemoprevention.
Sarah C. Thomasset,David P. Berry,Hong Cai,Kevin West,Tim Marczylo,Debbie Marsden,Karen Brown,Ashley R. Dennison,Giuseppe Garcea,Andrew S. Miller,David Hemingway,William P. Steward,Andreas J. Gescher +12 more
TL;DR: Repeated administration of bilberry anthocyanins exerts pharmacodynamic effects and generates concentrations of anthOCyanins in humans resembling those seen in ApcMin mice, a model of FAP adenomas sensitive to the chemopreventive properties of anthcyanins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anthocyanin-rich extracts suppress the DNA-damaging effects of topoisomerase poisons in human colon cancer cells.
Melanie Esselen,Jessica Fritz,Jessica Fritz,Melanie Hutter,Nicole Teller,Nicole Teller,Simone Baechler,Simone Baechler,Ute Boettler,Ute Boettler,Tim Marczylo,Andreas J. Gescher,Doris Marko,Doris Marko +13 more
TL;DR: The results raise the possibility that high intake of berry extracts may protect DNA and thus counteract the therapeutic effectiveness of orally applied topoisomerase poisons during chemotherapy.
